Here are Watson's result stats (games he has played in this season) compared to the whole team;
Watson ..... played 22 ..... won 8 (36%) .... drew 7 (32%) ..... lost 7 (32%)
Charlton ... played 34 ... won 14 (41%) ... drew 9 (27%) .... lost 11 (32%)
So he has only played in the same proportion of losing games as the whole team - about 3 in 10.
But has been involved in a lower proportion of wins than the whole team.
Obviously those basic stats don't take into account many other factors.
But it's probably fair to say Watson has not stood out from the crowd this season.
He has missed only 5 games through injury, but has picked up 9 yellow cards and a 1 match suspension (for being carded in his first 5 appearances).
If he has the clause in his contract then it's his right to trigger it I guess.
I think we'd like to see improvement from him though, if he is going to be a regular again in the starting XI.
(I am assuming we'll still be in League One. Granted we're in with a chance of making the play-offs, but only an outside chance of going up).

He's actually looked quite good in some of the recent matches, but given his pedigree, some of the performances were woefully unexpected. If he's going to give 100%, he could be a useful addition, but he wasn't on my very small list of players we need to keep for next season.

He was a sub twice and started once in the 3 games before that ... only 1 point taken.
And Watson was not in the squad for 2 games prior to that, and a sub in just one ... only 3 points taken.
I haven't watched those games.
But there seems to be a case for Watson contributing to our recent improvement in results (albeit performances are still not as strong as we would like).

That's an eyebrow raiser.
Room for improvement then.
Triggering that extra year on his contract is an astute move, given these uncertain times for footballers. Hope Bowyer can get the most out of him next season.
