Watford have been a team very much on the up since the appointment of Xisco with the Spaniard moving the Hornets into contention for the top two.

Nevertheless, Saturday's 1-0 reverse at the Vitality Stadium has halted the club's momentum, ending a four-match winning streak in the second tier.

With Norwich and Brentford squaring off on Wednesday evening, there is an opportunity for Watford to make some headway on the top two, preferably the latter given that the leaders hold a 10-point lead over third position.

The setback at the weekend was arguably undeserved with Bournemouth's winning goal coming from a free kick which was controversially awarded in the middle of the pitch.

Nevertheless, Xisco will feel that the circumstances behind the defeat could act as the catalyst for a return to winning ways on Wednesday, particularly with Wycombe having earned a draw in the reverse fixture back in October.

The stalemate at Adams Park earned Wycombe their first-ever point in the Championship, but it has not helped the Chairboys get out of trouble.

Despite the vast improvements made by Gareth Ainsworth and his squad, they realistically need to win half of their remaining 14 fixtures to avoid an immediate return to League One.

Although defeat against Norwich on Sunday has not helped their cause, Ainsworth will take the positives from remaining in the fixture until the closing minutes.

Nevertheless, Fred Onyedinma's scrappy effort against Reading represents Wycombe's only goal from open play in their last four fixtures.

    Watford Championship form: DWWWWL

    Wycombe Wanderers Championship form: LWLDWL

Geoff Eltringham was the ref when we won at Derby this season - I hope that's an omen...

They were no pushover against Norwich. Very difficult to break down.

Six Hornets continue to progress with their respective recoveries from injury, while two members of the squad will be unavailable to play this week through suspension.

Ben Foster has begun light training at London Colney as treatment continues for a broken finger, which has seen the goalkeeper absent since January 2.

Meanwhile, centre-half Christian Kabasele is still working in the gym as he recovers from a knee injury sustained at Huddersfield Town in December.

Isaac Success continues to work with the medical team as he returns following a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the forward having appeared for the Under-23s in recent weeks.

Similarly, Marc Navarro remains unavailable due to a hamstring injury, with treatment ongoing for the full-back, who last appeared in a matchday squad on February 6.

Troy Deeney is facing a spell on the sidelines after a scan revealed Achilles tendon damage for the club captain, with a second scan scheduled within the next couple of weeks.

There is positive news regarding Tom Dele-Bashiru's rehabilitation though, as the midfielder is now back full-time at the training ground following an ACL injury suffered at Reading in October. The 21-year-old will appear on Hive Live from 6pm on Wednesday night, discussing his recovery and more.

    Good to here about TDB.

Sounds like Deeney and Kabasele won't get fit any time soon.

I think we've missed TDB a lot more than we thought we might.

Would at least have been another option in midfield.

So Pedro = first of one game suspension.

Chalobah = first of two game suspension.

    Is that correct?

Guess that means some enforced rotation.

I'd put Gosling in for Chalobah in the midfield, that's a no brainer ATM.

And, Zinc for Pedro but with Sarr through the middle. So, Sema - Sar - Zinc up top. I bet Muñoz puts in AG up top mind but I'd prefer Perica.

Can't make too many changes and if we have to make 2 as it is.

WW will be a tough nut to crack hopefully Sierralta can out muscle their attack as I think last time we got bullied somewhat.

Talking of changes, Wycombe brought five subs on in one go against Norwich. In other words they changed half of their outfield players at the same time.

Interesting conundrum.. Logically this should be a game AG could thrive in... Not too many opportunities left for him...

They will be physical and defence minded so need to be strong and score early.

To be honest, I'd rather see Success (who was rested from the U23 game yesterday?) - or even the young Turk who is apparently a bit of a handful.

Other teams have done this recently also.

Success not in u23 squad so expect him on the bench.

Office bragging rights up for grabs her, the boss is a WW STH.
If we win, I'll just have to maintain a diplomatic silence.
If we lose then I'll just have to take it on the chin... :emoticon-0147-emo:

Or, on the basis that you helped arrange the defeat, ask for a pay rise in return for the gift of three points to help their quest to avoid relegation? ;)
