Possessing far more skill than brawn, Barry Hartle was the creative component, at inside‐left, of the Holton‐inspired promotion team. He left at the end of that season to join Sheffield United and remained back in the north of England for the rest of his career – mainly as a left‐winger. He was later a postman, then a self‐employed taxi‐driver in Stockport. Once again the dire finances of Watford brought about the move, taking him to Sheffield for less than £3,000. Later Watford also sold Tony Currie to Sheffield Utd. this time for £26,500. Certainly one of the most gifted players to grace the Vic he was the England under 21 captain, and won 17 full caps. Coming to more immediate matters; Watford play host to Sheffield United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon still looking for their first win in this season's top flight. The Blades make the trip to Vicarage Road sitting in 12th position, having already recorded eight points from their first seven games of the campaign. please log in to view this image After watching his players earn a comeback draw against Arsenal in his first game back at the club, Quique Sanchez Flores would not have envisaged that 10 goals would be conceded without reply against Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers. While Watford improved slightly at Molineux last weekend, Flores now has a sizeable task on his hands to ensure that the Hornets do not get cut adrift at the bottom of the table. A positive result will change that, and there is no danger of the Hornets taking this Sheffield United team lightly given their contrasting fortunes since the beginning of the campaign. That is something which may work in Watford and Flores's favour, however, at a time when he is looking for the club's established players and high-profile arrivals to justify their spots in the team. At a time when Flores is tasked with getting points on the board as soon as possible, Blades manager Chris Wilder has a job on his hands to lift his squad after missing out against Liverpool. Although he refused to label the Hornets’ current situation as a ‘drama’ Sanchez Flores did acknowledge that their position is somewhat invidious and said he has been working on improving the players’ mental health as part of his training. The official only oversaw one game involving the Hornets last season when he officiated the 2-1 home victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The season before, he also only took charge of one Watford match when he refereed the 2-0 win over West Ham United. Marriner has never sent off a Watford player as a referee before and last issued a red card in January this year, when he sent off Wilfried Zaha in Crystal Palace's 1-1 draw away at Southampton. He will be assisted at Vicarage Road by Simon Long and Peter Kirkup, while Tim Robinson will be the fourth official and Martin Atkinson will be on video assistant referee duties. nervous and apprehensive sums up my mood today, let's hope that these are unjustified and we put in a performance that gets us three much needed points. Make no assumptions though, it will be tough Shef Utd will not roll over and we will need ALL of our team to put in a performance - we have seen glimpses of what we are capable of, but we need to keep it tight at the back and not concede early (or at all )
Need to get back to last seasons heights.... Quite worried.. But we should win this one... If we don't we are in it.... Really on any count this should be a banker home win.
Today marks Prodl's first Premier League start since April 14, 2018, away at Huddersfield town in the season before last. He's been away from the action for a long time, but showed against Swansea City that he is still capable of putting in a performance. please log in to view this image
