Watford will be relying on their excellent home record against Leeds but will need to find the back of the net as they have struggled for goals at home. This will be a great opportunity to end their long losing run at home against a Leeds team that concedes lots of goals away from home. Leeds know that a defeat in this match will raise relegation fears again. Leeds had a 1-1 draw with Southampton in their last match which extended their unbeaten run to three matches. They are now eight points above Watford but have played an extra match. Leeds will not feel safe and will want to win this match and secure their top flight status. They won their last away match to Wolves which ended a run of three consecutive away losses. Watford have failed to score in three of their last five home matches. Watford have yet to keep a clean sheet at home this season. Leeds have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last nine away matches. Team News Watford have reported no new injuries. Leeds have some players returning, but as of today no information on who might play. Our Officials Referee: Andre Marriner. please log in to view this image Assistants: Simon Long, Scott Ledger. Fourth official: Simon Hooper. VAR: Mike Dean. Assistant VAR: Neil Davies. ENJOY THE GAME WHEREVER YOU ARE IN THE WORLD
Probably feel more like an away game with us defending trying to counter attack and in their usual attack mode .
What we do know is that Leeds will bring their full number of noisy fans. It really needs the Watford fans to get behind the team from the kick off, and get the Vic a place to be feared again. To go from our fortress, to a place that has no soul is a major problem. Time to forget the mistakes that will happen, and applaud the things that go right. And certainly not the time to pick on a player and point out that your granny could do better.
"VAR: Mike Dean. Assistant VAR: Neil Davies." It always amazes me that, even with an assistant, the VAR still gets so much wrong. The last time I saw Leeds at the Vic was in 2013 when they stopped us getting automatic promotion. Almunia was injured in the warm-up and replaced by Jonathon Bond - who was stretchered off after Poleon shoved Anya into him and fractured his cheekbone, to be replaced by Jack Bonham. I sincerely hope that nothing like that happens again...
I think they are there to just keep watching the game live whilst the VAR guy is looking at replays? Most of it is subjective of course - might think it's right in their eyes. Could say maybe that is why it's worthless and not really a good thing to have as it's just another official making his own personal view on something and putting doubt into the mind of the on pitch ref.
And , I believe, Bonham had been told just before the game that he was being released. Whether that had anything to do with Leeds winning goal coming about by the ball slipping through his fingers is conjecture. Still, it did lead on to one of our greatest moments ( Leicester - - Vydra's amazing strike , overshadowed by Deeneys last minute netbuster - even if the final outcome against Palarse was a downer). Swings and roundabouts. I have to confess my dislike of Leeds is visceral. Tragic I know. Started with Revie - what a cheat - and on to Bates - another one about whom my feelings are prosecutable if in print.
I often wondered if that might have been the reason - it was only publicly announced just over a month later that he was leaving. Mind you, he didn't perform any better at his next club, Brentford. I actually used to quite like Leeds - back in the 70s. Maybe it was the Scottish connection - Bremner, Jordan, Lorimer, McQueen and Gray, all very good players.
As a Leeds dweller.. .I have had my views tempered in recent times... their last manager was a great guy... lived amongst the people etc..... and there is little of that awful aggro that used to go with every Leeds game........ However...................... I am so glad that my daughter, her boyfriend and my godson all Leeds born...are all Watford supporters....... We MUST beat them tomorrow
I would like VAR to be operated by the fans, we all have a button and upon seeing the replay we vote on it!
My pal Larry will be at the match today making his comeback after his cardiac arrest at the Chelsea match, subsequent stent replacement, 5x bypass and defibrillator insertion. I believe that the Horns are in the know...
