If anyone needs some antivirus software, don't waste money on Norton or Kaspersky orothers, the best by far is 'AVG free', search for it on google and download. It has a much smaller footprint on your computer and is free.

Like i said on another thread, a few years back i was going to re-install my OS, so decided to do a test, went to crack sites etc and got a ton of viruses, downloaded AVG free it found 50, pirated AVG Pro and it found another 60, Pirated Nod32 and it found another 150, so i have stuck with nod32 for years (and never paid for it once, even though i probably should)

    no problem

truth is nothing will catch 100%, you could even do without and do a housecall ( http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/ )every fortnight or something, just depends what you do on the net.

lots of porn, pirating off dodgy sites (public trackers etc) then get yourself a VS.

basically just be careful and have some common sense on what you do and you should never get infected.

I've got a weird virus at the minute where when I open a picture from google images it diverts me to a web page which shows a fake anti-virus program "scanning" the computer and tries to get me to buy some crappy software. Get's ****ing annoying sometimes but too lazy to get rid of it.

I admit that i know jack **** about computers, maybe one of you lads can help.

I have a 4month old vaio, and whatever anti-virus i try, stall after about 15%of a scan, and i have to turn it off and reboot, i've tried pretty much every anti virus going.

The inbuilt vaio care, which i run once a week, generally finds an incredible 8-10,000(!) registry faults, but now i am starting to have issues were when it loads, i can't open any programmes, sometimes i have to reboot 3 times for it to work.

    HELP!

have you tried that housecall link i posted, also try spybot (not virus scanner but malware etc), for the registry, download ccleaner and clear everything out, it will clear your cookies and cache as well, but this also has a reg checker, run that after the clean and see what it comes up with.

Can you try rebuilding it (reinstalling the os). The laptop should have come with recovery discs, so you can run them, but make sure that you back up all the files you need onto a pendrive/external hard disk.

I use spybot, but it basically does the same job as vaio care.

Ive tried many reg cleaners, and they supposedly fix faults but the problems come back.

I don't feel that after shelling £900 6months back, i should have any ****ing problems.

    Very annoying.

well tbh its not a sony problem, its a windows problem, if there is nothing at all that will fix it (but try ccleaner it cant hurt and its free) then your only option is to reinstall windows, not sure what windows you have but get Windows7 if its not that, a lot better than Vista.

Inall honesty though, if you do not play games on your laptop, get linux, even if you partition your drive to have windows and linux on, no viruses with linux and pc will run better, but the learning curve for using linux is 1000* more than windows.

Well i had no problems at all with 7, and i have 8TBs worth of ****e on here lol

It does sound like your only option is to reinstall the OS, but i would definately dual boot, or even tripple boot.

Linux ubuntu is the best for home use.
    Windows 7
Mac OS (might take some pissing about but it should work).

just use your windows disk to make 3 partitions if you are installing 2 OS or 4 partitions if you are installing 3 OS (the other partition is for data and installing stuff, so make this the biggest).and install linux first, then mac, then 7 last.

Google 'Ubuntu'. Download it. Burn it onto a blank DVD (if you right click on the file, in windows 7 it should come up as 'burn to disk' or something along those lines). Once it's burned, reboot your computer with the DVD in. Go to 'install Ubuntu', and you can either 'create a partition' or 'erase disk'. Create a partition, and drag the slider along so you can get the right amount of space. Carry on, and it will install it. When you next turn on your computer, there will be a screen with Windows 7 and Ubuntu; you can pick which OS to use.
