Based on the reactions I have read and witnessed over the past few years I would say no.

Was Hamilton ready for the regime and fans of F1? again I would say no.

Anyone disagree?

Would F1 be better without Hamilton IMO No

Would Hamilton be better without F1 IMO yes.

After Schumacher retired F1 needed Hamilton. A new sensation took take over from the old master.

Well, that's how it looked early on. Its fair to say he never kept up the momentum of the first half of 2007.

But F1 was ready for Hamilton and Hamilton was ready for F1.

How do you think Hamilton would be better without F1? Can't see where you;re coming from on that one.

Not sure what you mean by this thread. Care to elaborate on what you mean by "were we ready" and the reactions you're basing this on?

I thought Hamilton was just a bloke like all the other blokes in F1, why do people constantly try to make him out to be more than he is which a bloke driving a car, he isn't bigger than F1, he isn't god and F1 would get along just fine without him or any other driver.

I think the question you are asking is moot as is his involvement in F1.

In other words, he has made no difference to the sport in anyway whatsoever, but then again very few drivers have.

Like I said it is a moot point.

Every so often a 'sensation' enters F1.

Senna in 84
Schumacher in 91
Hamilton in 07

When I say sensation, I mean those who made an immediate impressions at the sharp end of the grid. There are many talented drivers who have won lots and lots, but were never considered 'sensations' when they first made the grid. Prost, Piquet to name but a couple.

For example Alonso was not an immediate sensation as he was in a Minardi and rarely troubled the top ten, but it was clear he was something good. Instead he worked his way up slowly getting better and then banged in 2xWDC's.

Lots of drivers make 'good' first impressions only for it to fizzle out. Trulli for example.

So Bergkamp, is this what you are getting at?

Yes but the question is was F1 ready for Hamilton, which is probably the most preposterous question I've ever heard..

Were old school fans ready for the Hamilton surge of his new fanbase? No

Would people prefer if they never came? Yes

Is there a likeness of Schumacher in Hamilton? Yes

Does the British media show this in the same light? No

Will F1 fans miss Lewis? No/Yes

Will somebody else take his place? Yes

Is this post stupid? Yes

Is dinner ready yet? No

Are you pissed off? Yes

Its a shame Berkgamp hasn;t come back on here to tell us what this thread is supposed to be about!

My post was a suggestion of an angle he may have been looking at. Who knows.

Unless he actually does make it plain what this thread is about, I agree with all those who say it is proposterous, stupid, meaningless etc etc
