It's actually a vacuum cleaner. Hoover and Dyson are both just brand names.

That was actually my point - most people call their vacuum cleaners Dysons and Hoovers when the name of the appliance is actually a vacuum cleaner. Kind of like calling your cooker a Neff or your fridge a Smeg...
