Was a pre-season tour in Asia a good idea?

A genuine question and something that has been at the back of my mind for a few weeks. Commercially, going to Asia for a pre-season tour made a lot of sense but in hindsight (such a wonderful thing) was it possibly to the detriment of the preparation for the new season?

I know these games are just considered to be simply for getting the fitness levels back to where they were before the break but I am also wondering, on the back of today's unbelievable scoreline, if the level of opponents in the friendlies was perhaps not of a high enough standard, resulting in routine wins by decent margins, and consequently creating a certain amount of complacency and/or over confidence in the squad?

R's fans have been very confident in recent weeks, (and perhaps had we signed a couple of the players you did, I might have been a bit more optimistic about our chances) and if you fans have been so confident then I am guessing the players were probably very confident too, and even over confident with the prospect of a home game on the opening day to a "lesser" team in the PL.

Yes, we also got a right royal battering today and we were dreadful. There can be no excuses for that performance at the cottage. God alone knows what is going to happen in next weeks game! Could be a high scoring draw with the worst defending we have ever witnessed.

It was a lovely holiday they had, on the company account.

Shouldn't you be more concerned with your own failure today Thai?

We toured friggin' Cornwall playing the likes of Tavistock last year under Warnock - and then beat Everton away a few weeks later!

It was a PR exercise more than a pre-season. The games were useless from a football perspective.
