Warnock wary of bad start By Paul Warburton Aug 11 2011 Share Add a comment Recommend NEIL Warnock admits QPR's first six games will decide his future at Loftus Road. The Rangers boss laughed off the tag of bookies favourite at 4-1 to become the Premier Leagueâs first managerial casualty of the season â and joked he was going to get a price on being around at the end of the campaign and cash in. He said: â4-1? Is that all? I would have thought it might be even shorter. But you could have got 16-1 on Martin OâNeill last season â and he turned out to be the first, didnât he? âItâs a given that if we make a hash of the first six games â then my chances are limited.â Read More http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/lo...=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter#ixzz1UiH2Xf5c
The first six games are critical to our chances of survival. They "look" easier than what's to follow; newly promoted teams who survive tend to do better in the first half of the campaign and pick up more points early on (yes I know that this describes Blackpool's season but they almost survived!) As the season wears on we will lose our novelty value; teams are often wary of the unknown factor when the opposition "dont know the score" and come at them in a way more established teams wouldn't do, so the surprise factor diminishes in value as the season progresses. Also we have a squad that needs to be lucky - as everybody knows - as far as injuries are concerned, and coupled with suspensions could hit us badly later rather than sooner. I think we need to pick up a minimum of 9 points from these first six games( 12 would be better!) but any less and I would think the die is cast and it would be very hard to make up the ground thereafter.
My worry for Saturday - if it's on - is that our passes will go astray as they have done pre-season - we'll get punished for that in the Prem. It may take a few games for our new team to gel, and we don't have that luxury...
12 points from our first 8 games good enough return, but probably not for the poison dwarf and his orange troll
