Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock is keen to start spending some money to improve his squad ahead of the transfer window closing at the end of the month and has set his sights on Tottenham winger David Bentley, according to reports in The Metro. QPR have just been taken over by Malaysian tycoon Tony Fernandes, and Warnock will have cash available to strengthen his squad. The newly promoted side got their first points on the board at the weekend with a 1-0 victory against Everton, after being thumped 4-0 by Bolton on the opening weekend. Warnock's only business in the transfer window so far this summer has been the signing of former Blackpool striker D.J. Campbell. However it seems as though Warnock, has set his sights on the outcast Tottenham winger, with Bentley himself making no secret of his desire to leave White Hart Lane. Last season the 26-year-old, England international spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Birmingham City, but had a number of lack luster performances and could not help prevent the side getting relegated. It is believed a bid of around £2.5million could see Bentley make the move across to west London. During the last campaign Bentley made only three appearances in a Spurs shirt, before heading on loan to Birmingham where he made 15 appearances and only scored one goal. http://www.sportsvibe.co.uk/news/football/tottenham-winger-set-for-2-5m-premiership-switch-10197/? Hey guys..... commiserations on the result. Rangers fan in peace. Based on the above, do you think 'Arry could/would let him go for the 2.5mil reported? I'd bite your hand off for that amount, but wanted to get your opinions. Also, any idea if Bassong is headed out? I think we'd take him if so!
A bid of two and a half quid would do it for me. However, as the story comes from The Metro, I won't hold my breath.
Criminy how things change... Whilst I agree the signing of Bentley for the fee he commanded at the time was an awful bit of business on our part, IF he got his act together I could see him as having a role at Spurs still. Whilst Lennon is a better option for us, I think that Bentley in tandem with Kyle Walker could work, Walker could provide the pace and Bentley HAS got a better delivery when he puts his mind to it, and there is less chance of exposure as he is less likely to forage down the line and more likely to hold his place on the right (cos he has no pace admitedly!) giving Walker the chance to shine?
I actually agree with that, OODB. I think that Redknapp wrote off Bentley after he soaked him, to be honest. Very petty.
like FREEdel and AnyBuyer then? so he's perfect for the current Spurs set-up! No, he's not **** notso, he's not being utilised correctly - through his own misdemenanours and bad man-management. He can do a job for the team, he did in the season we actually made it to the CL if I remember correctly. IF he gets his head out of his arse that is, which hopefully will be with us rather than when he's playing against us for a team like QPR or some such this season.
We've signed Dyer (injured already) and Gabbidon from the Hammers, and Bothroyd, as well as a Brazillian defender no-one had heard of before, but they were all freebies! We've only coughed up a transfer fee for DJC.
DB...he's ****. Waffling on about how it could work with Walker...never heard so much rubbish. Walker gets forward with Lennon, safe in the knowledge he's got decent cover, with Bentley, he wouldn't get forward half as much. Imagine if Bentley had played tonight up against Ashley Young trying to track him back! Bentley is another liability defensively...a tart in fact. He's had so many chances its unreal, in front of numerous RB's, and EVERY time...he's ****. **** at Birmingham too, even a last chance saloon doesn't seem to motivate him. Your obsession with Friedel is getting boring. He is a much better 'allround' keeper than Gomes, and will do until find a decent younger keeper. He was beaten by 3 very well placed goals no keeper was saving. He actually kept the score down, but most noticable to me if not you, was his handling, immaculate as ever, no flap, no spill, no fumble, and no defenders wearing nappies when we concede corners! Go and get players you say...bit of a dreamer aren't you...the top players don't want to come here, proven by all the buffoons who have said 'sign Aguero' in the past...like he was ever going to come here! In the real world Adebayor is as good as gets for Spurs around this time, and he's better than what we've got, not by much, agreed, not who I'd like to see, agreed, but, like the keeper, he'll do for now.
He's **** in the aspect that, he is IMO, a lazy poser. If he spent half as much time worrying about his fitness and form, as he seems to on his hairstyle, or his latest tattoo, then he could have been an effective squad player. Complete waste of talent. The guy is a ****head, waste of space, IMO.
God you guys don't know how to make a sale do you Bentley is world class and should have been a fixture for England for several years. He is guaranteed to score goals like he did against Arsenal almost every week and drop crosses on to your forwards heads several times a game. That will be £20m please Mr Fernandes.
Yeah, sorry Harry. If any prosprctive buyers are reading this, I was making a joke. Bentley is, of course, a valuable asset that we would be loathe to see go. However, for the right sum of money, we would very reluctantly sell this prized asset. How's that??
