He has a point.... Those three away wins were crucial and stuff like the barton norwich debacle and swp against wba goal were out of his hands. Warnock P20 17points Hughes P18 20 points Yes his record his better but you'd expect that having spent £14m!!!
But Warnock would have spent the £14m on players like SWP and Barton. No way Cisse, Zamora, Onuoha would have signed for him, and he didn't have the contacts to find loans like Diakite and The Mighty Taiwo. We would have been relegated in April.
We also could have been safe by April. Fact is, Hughes' early form was dreadful. Ultimately he got us across the line and he deserves great credit for that but COLIN might have done better.
If memory serves me correctly we were linked with top players when Warnock was in charge. Also with Zamora didnt that Ric-Roc guy who was a genuine itk (remember the team announcement ordeal?) said that Zamora was intent on joining us since that 6-0 hammering. Also it has to be remembered that Taiwo started out a liability with many calling for Traore to return. People have been calling for Young to return in place of Onouha, we managed without Diakite for 4 games and had him pretty much lose us the game against Fulham and Cisse...well he paid it back but he was off the pitch more than he was on it. All in all Hughes and his "quality" players managed to pull it together in the end and for that they deserve credit. But who were the POTY nominee's? The constant performers? The passion and spine of the team throughout the season? Warnocks old guard. You can say we wouldnt have stayed up without Hughes's signings but we sure as hell wouldnt of stayed up without Hill, Mackie, Helguson, Derry etc. We'll never know if we would've stayed up with Warnock and in my opinion it was a shame we never found out.
"If we had done business last summer we would have been in the top half of the table, quite easily." Think Colin has been spending too much time with Ken Bates!
This bloke is turning into a real idiot He lost it and he knows it It was his chance and one day he will come to terms he mucked it all up Not all his fault of course but he is mad as hell inside and should focus on keeping Leeds in the championship I can't see them making it West Ham or Blackpool will be tree again next year as will Wolves Boro plus another six before Leeds
He is the manager of a club I absolutely hate. He's in our past ffs, why is there more about him on this forum than our current manager???? I'm certainly more excited about our prospects this summer than the last one, and having MH in charge is big reason for that. The guy clearly has a chip on his shoulder and hopefully one day, his PL management skills will be on display again (not with us) and we can put this argument to bed. No wonder they call him Colin.
I was torn asunder on here for calling him that during his reign (Wats and North chief among them). Now everybody is calling him it again! How times change.
Dead right Scotland. I think we would have been safe mid April with Colin QPR Legend still in charge, and it would have been a lot more fun watching. We did very well for 2/3 months after Neil was able to get in some new players end August, and I think he would have done the same against the weaker opposition we had in the winter with new signings January.
Ultimately, Fernandes' statement that he's been vindicated is the only conclusion we can draw upon, because everything else is conjecture. Ultimately Hughes did keep us up, but under Warnock we were dropping like a stone. I do feel that we owed Warnock the full season as the situation we were in prior to January was not his fault. Having only been given the 1.25 million for DJ before the season started was obviously never going to be enough to stave off relegation. He did very well bringing in Bothroyd and Dj, but I feel he did fail by not buying another striker when Fernandes did take over. On the face of it the signings of Barton and SWP were master strokes, although risky ones. Ultimately we've seen that Barton was instrumental in getting Warnock the sack and almost getting us relegated. When we signed Warnock I remember one Blades fan congratulating us on 606, but he said we should get rid of him as soon as we get promoted because he didn't have a clue in the top flight. Sounded harsh to me, ultimately some of our performances and his subsequent post match interviews had that blades fan's quote ringing in my ears. I will always love Warnock, but I do feel we are in safer hands under Hughes. We've seen the sort of players he is able to attract and pick out and I'm sure we'll see more in the summer.
We won 1 home match in 10 with Colin in charge. It was our home form that kept us up in the end. He would never have kept us up, you could see that from the performances , and if some of his trusted old guard were questioning his ability at this level ( Hill to name one ) He must have been struggling. I wish him all the best and thank him for setting up the Club to move forward, but he was inept at this level and it was obvious.
Dead right, we were on an awful run with no end in sight and he'd lost the dressing room. The propaganda from NW now is for if he finds himself back in the prem with another team. Thanks for what you did but we owe survival to MH.
