New Leeds boss hoping to 'have some fun' at Elland Road

Neil Warnock is excited by the challenge awaiting him at Leeds, with the former Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers boss having made a speedy return to the dugout.

Warnock started the 2011/12 campaign at the helm of Premier League outfit QPR, but was shown the door in January.

His services were in demand from the moment he left Loftus Road, with Leeds' decision to part with Simon Grayson firing them to the front of the queue.

Warnock admits he spoke to a number of other sides, including Wolves, before accepting an offer from Leeds, but he believes he is about to take the reins at one of the biggest clubs in the country.

In his column for The Independent, Warnock wrote: "It is exciting to be back and it is even more so to be at a genuine, big club like Leeds United.

    United

"I've spoken to three or four clubs in the last 10 days and I've been really pleased with being wanted. Leeds was the one that I listened to a lot and I saw the fans' forums. They seemed to be united that they wanted me. I do feel that when you've got potentially 30,000 people it's a bloody fantastic place to be. I reckon Leeds are the fourth or fifth biggest club in the country.

"I love it at my age. I have nothing to fear. If things go wrong, I will call it a day. As long as I enjoy it, I will see how it goes between now and the end of the season. My contract is until the end of next season, but I've spoken to Ken Bates, the Leeds chairman, and if we know it's not working - I'm not into contracts now, I was when I'm younger - we'll go our own way.

"I've always got on all right with the chairman. I know how he runs his clubs, he gets them organised. I know they've had a lot of protests, but I'm saying to fans: 'We've got 14 games to go, put everything to bed and let's have some fun'."

Warnock was at Elland Road on Saturday to see his new side recover from falling two goals down to snatch a dramatic 3-2 victory over Yorkshire rivals Doncaster.

He is looking forward to starting his first official day at work on Monday, with Leeds currently sat just three points adrift of the Championship play-off places.

    Keen

He added: "I honestly haven't got a clue what we can achieve. If you'd seen the first half against Doncaster on Saturday, you'd have said, 'Let's avoid relegation'. If you saw the second, you'd say, 'Let's go for it'. We've got some good players, and the crowd is an extra player.

"I regretted not putting myself on the bench after 10 minutes of the game. I said that to Mick Jones. I went down at half-time and changed three or four things and that really helped us. They're a very keen set of lads, they all want to do their best. That's great for me."

On his decision to plump for Leeds over a number of other interested parties, Warnock said: "I first spoke to Leeds 10 days ago. They asked me my situation. I didn't know what I was going to do.

"Over 10 days, I had two interviews with other clubs and another close one before then. Then everything at Leeds happened in 24 hours last week. I spoke to Wolves on Wednesday, I don't think they wanted to make a quick decision. I spoke to Ken on Thursday. He said, 'Come over and I'll tell you about the club, you can start on Sunday and meet them on Monday'.

"I went back and thought that would be a waste of a game and I wanted to make sure we got three points against Doncaster, which we did - even if it didn't look possible at 2-0 down. It wasn't a bad first team-talk!"

So you check out the fans forums do you Neil? Interesting. Wonder if he's ever been on not606? ;)

I've never doubted you're half time team talks Neil, but my only piece of advice would be to get it right BEFORE the first half more often than not. I'll make sure to put Leeds on my betting slip every week from now until the end of the season as I can only see this go one way. Good luck Neil!

I can only see it going one way as well.

With Warnock looking for a new job next January, if he manages to get them promoted.

He'll only get on well if he can avoid Frankensteins monster following him into the stand! (see Pic).

Despite not liking Leeds, wishing him all the best.

30,000 Leeds fans wanted the Sheffield man?

The missus always makes me watch the football league show anyway (Claridge is still spouting more guff than a fat man on the cabbage soup diet) so I will look for the Leeds highlights and Neilo's post match interviews.

    Good luck to him.

There are a few players we could sell him to help him on his way. Shame Hulse and Hall are in the 25.

He will no doubt be back for 5 or 6 as he knows their contracts are running out and sign them for free or very little and no doubt he will get the best out of them. He will also try to sign Mackie from us and may get him if we go down.

Whatever happens good luck Neil Warnock.

I hope he can work his magic. He thrives in those kinds of situations and that is probably why he went to Leeds.

I wish Neil all the best. I know he'll get them going well.

As for us..... if MH doesn't work out some kind of magic......... you know what I'm saying.

Seems he already had a big hand in turning 0-2 to 3-2 in the 2nd half saturday. This form Leeds official:

HAPPY ENDING FOR NEIL IS A NEW START FOR NEIL 20 Feb 2012Temporary boss passes on the baton...

Temporary boss Neil Redfearn was delighted to sign off his short tenure with an Elland Road victory on Saturday - and he is predicting an exciting future under new manager Neil Warnock.

A Luciano Becchio goal in the 99th minute of the game secured a 3-2 win against Doncaster after United came from 2-0 down and a delighted Redfearn was able to toast a second victory from his four games at the helm.

"At 2-0 down it wasn't great, but the response after we pulled a goal back was out of the top drawer," said Redfearn.

"I think Neil has to take a lot of credit for that because of the fact he was around the club with his presence, and his knowledge at half-time.

"He had a chat with them and made some important points. That helped make the difference. The lads know what he is all about.

"The lads put on a performance in the end and once we got the equaliser there was never any doubt that we were going to get the winner. From our point of view it was a great three points.

"The finishes for all three goals were technically outstanding, and it was a great day in the end."

When Becchio grabbed the late, late winner, the striker led his team-mates to the dug-out where they celebrated with Redfearn.

"That meant a lot," said Redfearn. "I have to say the lads have been fantastic for me, even if a couple of the performances weren't what we wanted and were disappointing for the fans. We've given ourselves a base now for Neil to go to town."

While Warnock had an input on Saturday, the new manager formally took over the reins on Sunday morning when he met the players again at Thorp Arch, and Redfearn is predicting exciting times.

"He's an experienced guy with a prove track record, and I think it's a great appointment for the club," he said.

"He has a proven track record of getting teams out of this division so for me, and Leeds United fans, it's got to be exciting times."

And, for Redfearn now, it was back to duties as Under-18s manager on Monday morning after a short spell that he is unlikely to forget.

"I've always said I'm an employee of the football club, and if I've helped the club in any way then great," he said. "And if its helped Neil, and helps him move the forwards that's what it's all about.

"I'm a massive fan of the club and I want it to do well. It demands success. There's a massive fanbase and they are fantastic fans.

"They are northern fans and if it's so good they will let you know about it - there's no grey areas - and I'm glad we could give them something to cheer about on Saturday.
