Higgs offered Ward public backing in a local radio interview when being asked about Rovers' lowly league position. When asked whether Ward, who marked one year in the job yesterday, was 'safe' in his position, Higgs replied: "John is in for the long haul. We brought John in to rebuild the side and that is what we are doing. We will take stock in January and look at the playing squad, but there is no thoughts of any changes (in manager) at this stage. John did a fantastic job last season in helping us to stabilise things with a strong finish to the campaign. We sat down in the summer and made a decision to look at some of the youth we have got because we have spent a lot of money in building up that particular department. We now have eight or nine players around the first team who have come through our own system and that is all part of being in a transitional period. There are a lot of differences between the squad we have now and the squad we had 12 months ago. It was a real worry this time last season because we were conceding lots of goals and we were losing games by wide margins, but our recent performances have improved since the start of November and we have been very hard to beat. We are just not scoring enough goals and if we could just put that final piece of the jigsaw together, I'm confident we will be a much better side."
Yeah but ones that actually live up to the name 'striker' instead of players who play up front, but don't actually score any goals like our current lot.
