John Ward was pleased his team was able to give the travelling Rovers supporters a better performance against Southend United on Friday. Rovers have struggled on the road so far this season, but the manager was happy with the quality on display during the draw.

    He said:
“It was two good teams trying to get at each other. We are both a bit lowly in the league, but I think it was a good entertaining game. With over 400 away supporters there we have repaid a little bit the disappointment they have had recently. It was nice at the end to see supporters and players respond to each other in a positive way. The goal epitomised the football we are trying to play. The quality of our play in a tight match was pretty good.”

And the manager believes his side's form is starting to improve – just in time to face some of the teams in the top half of the table.

    He said:
“When you look at the game coming up, we have to play well against those teams, as they are top ten or in some cases top six sides. So we really have to improve our form, and there were some good signs in that game, and we have now had a game and a half where our form looks to be getting a bit better. Fleetwood are in good form, they have had three wins away from home out of four. They lost at home on Saturday, but they are a good side and have spent a lot of money. We know that we can raise our game against these boys, even if the odds are against us a little bit.”

The manager was particularly delighted to have Seanan Clucas back involved with the first team.

    He said:
“Seanan played in the under 21 game in midweek and finished with a goal to his name and three stitches in his head, and he was out training the next day. His approach and attitude epitomises what we are trying to do here. We are seeing Seanan affect other people, and I am really pleased for him that we have got him back around the first team.”

And finally, the manager has confirmed that he does not see Matt Gill being able to break back into the first team.

    He said:
“I have got a lot of players who are in opposition to Matt Gill getting in the first team, and in my view it will be difficult for Matt to get into that group. I have offered him the opportunity to have a think about it over the weekend, and come back and let me know. His career has got back on track with him getting fit, but now I cannot fit him in to the first team. So we need to see what he wants to do.”

Well we have got 1 point away from home!

In reality, we haven't won since August, so no wins in 5 games doesn't constitute improve form as far as I'm concerned.

October looks hard though, with Fleetwood, Mansfield and Chesterfield all looking good so far...
