Taken from the post.... Ward says financial rules imposed by the Football League may scupper his chances of bringing in cover for his injured players over the early part of the season. Ward has lost leg-break victim Jim Paterson for a minimum of six weeks and is currently awaiting the outcome of test results on knee-injury concerns Fabian Broghammer and Ryan Brunt to discover whether either player will be out for any length of time. Broghammer is due to have a scan today, while Brunt is to see a specialist and should find out tomorrow whether or not he will need a clean-up operation to remove a floating piece of bone, which would keep him sidelined for at least a month. Ward, meanwhile, has scope within his playing budget to complete a deal for Colchester United midfielder John-Joe OâToole should he opt for a move to the Memorial Stadium, but the wage cap imposed by the Football League may reduce his ability to enter the loan market for further short-term reinforcements. âI have to try and strengthen, but there are limits to what I can do due to the Football League regulations regarding the wage cap. We can only go so far in what we play for players and we have to abide by those rules. The person with the biggest problem is probably Toni Watola (finance director), who has to try and work all of the finances out, but weâll look at all scenarios. The Football League currently impose a cap that limits spending on wages to 55 per cent of turnover and have powers to place clubs under a transfer embargo if they pass the threshold. There has to be rules and there has to be a ceiling on what clubs can spend and I fully understand why it is done,â Ward continued. The strange thing about the rules is that the injured players, even the ones out over a longer term are all counted within the budget. I think there is a feeling around the game at this level that it is a bit of a strange rule. We canât complain because it was a rule that was voted in by the clubs and Iâm not saying it is right or wrong, it is just my observation of it. I think with this particular rule that there could possibly be exceptions in certain circumstances such as when a club has six or seven players injured at one time. Sometimes when rules are implemented it is not until later that it becomes clear that some parts of it should be amended and that is maybe something we could put forward as a club at some stage.â http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Rovers...ement-search/story-19538397-detail/story.html So then, its either O'toole or another CM or put up with what CM's we have and use those wages in other areas that we are weak in due to recent injuries.
