From the evil post..... ---------- BRISTOL Rovers boss John Ward will make an attempt to prise out-of-favour striker Steven Gillespie away from Fleetwood Town, The Post understands. The manager is a long-time admirer of Gillespie, 27, after signing him from Bristol City during his time in charge at Cheltenham Town in 2006 and is expected to make an inquiry as to his possible availability for loan this week. The striker went on to score 21 goals in 67 games for Cheltenham before being sold to Colchester United, where he was reunited with Ward, for £400,000 in the summer of 2008. The Liverpool-born marksman left Colchester to join Fleetwood last summer â but has fallen down the pecking order following the departure of former manager Micky Mellon, who was replaced by Graham Alexander at the start of December. He fell further down the pecking order after Fleetwood completed a £200,000 deal to sign striker Jamille Matt, from Kidderminster Harriers, last week and was left out of the matchday squad that was beaten 3-0 by Rovers on Saturday. Alexander confirmed after Saturday's defeat that he needed to trim the wage bill of a squad that is excessive in numbers and that could mean he may be prepared to listen to offers for Gillespie. Ward's chances of landing his man, however, could hinge on whether or not Gillespie is prepared to join Rovers' battle against the drop, as well as his willingness to return south only months after agreeing to join Fleetwood in order to be closer to his Merseyside roots. ----------- Thoughts??
Not a bad call...and his City connections would soon be forgotten if he starts scoring. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Gillespie But he's not the target man (5ft 9ins) many have been calling for....we'd have to play football on the ground!
Hopefully Hitchcock and Richard can forge a useful partnership. Gillespie's record looks pretty good, although he's clearly been dogged by injuries.
Sorry to put a spanner in the works but his nickname at Colchester due to his injuries was "Tampax", in for 4 days out for 28, but when playing always gave 100%. On another note I see that we have just taken goalkeeper Sam Walker on loan from Chelsea, what was he like during his spell with you ?
He didn't have a particularly good time with us, but not really his fault. He was playing in a team shipping goals for fun with a dire defence in front of him. He was a bit niaive but that comes from inexperience
tampax??? love it as for walker, he let in more than he saved. made some good saves usually when we already conceded 3/4. i didnt rate him to be honest. didnt command enough and not vocal enough. im glad we dont have him but there must be something about him for him to be on chelseas books?? sadly i personally didnt see this something, not once. good luck to him though and to you i hope you dont call on o'toole any time soon. he has been just what we have needed the last 2 seasons in midfield.
