I wouldn't accept them based on this principle alone, if you have a population of 10 - 20% Russians the Russian governments have excellent form of demanding territory off you 60 years later.

And they all go "huh???" When people say it's bull.

I think that's why people are nervous about it.

You say they don't have the right to protest, but thousands of young Russians have been crossing the borders if media are to be believed, so that is a form of protest, and no one has stopped them from doing so. Unlike the Ukraine, where soldiers turned them back and in some cases dragged their citizens away. So much so it makes you wonder who is the actual dictator country here. I know some are closing the borders now, but it demonstrates that Russians previously could have left at any time.

That's seeking Asylum mate. Protest is staying at home, going on the streets and telling Putin you oppose him

And we're seeing how that's been dealt with.

So what about the Ukranians, they dragged young men away, so they are just as bad. Everyone seems to paint Russia as though it's some communist country from the 70's - they are a civiliased modern country, like most European countries, they have virtually the same freedoms, other than that of protest.

Before long, we will be seeing Lada's back on the streets of Russia in news bulletins, just to complete the picture of how our media portray them.

Thing is though mate, you constantly tar the Russians as the baddies, Ukraine are probably just as guilty of many things, as that of their invaders. To me that just suits our Western agendas. Yes Putin is being a tit, but that's what happens when you poke a bear with a stick constantly.

What things are Ukraine guilty of that Russia are. Other than both sending their men into war ?

I'll leave you to work that out for yourself, unless you think the Ukraine is some sweet innocent country that never hurt a fly. It's a bit like saying the UK welcome whole heartedly all refugees, treating them with the respect and dignity they deserve at all times.

It's like saying there has been no unrest between Hindus and Muslims in Leicester, yes it might be a minority but if you seriously think all Ukranians live in peace with their Russian neighbours, then that's probably because Russian media is banned here for a reason. <laugh>

You made the statement though, that Ukraine was just as guilty as Russia

So I'm asking you what examples you're basing that on ?

Before Russian media were banned they were running documentarys on the tensions and troubles between Russians and Ukranians, probably similar tensions that was associated with Yugolavia before the war. Yet people seem to paint it as a one sided picture all the fault of the Russians, although Putin may tell many lies, I don't think everything he says is so, and there was a reason he called them Nazi's. Because that's what it was like if you identified as a certain individual.

I don't know enough about Russia I'm happy to admit, but when I watch that video I don't see it from our point of view imagining that as if it were U.S. soldiers. I see it as how Russia and its solders have always fought wars (and often won) when the odds are against them.

That's their I.D. - conscription, ruthless dictators and their generals like Stalin with Krushchev as his general in WW2 chucking soldiers into the the meat grinder. That's who they were, that's who they are now and that's what they know.

I don't know that it's going to work necessarily this time against a Ukraine with all the world's modern tech weaponry, but I don't see that video as it's being perceived but instead, just what they're used to doing when the chips are down.

And let's not forget the Ukrainians are the same, as they were part of the same psyche in the USSR.

Khrushev was a political commissar not a general . Both he and Brezhnev served in the "Stalingrad" campaign in political capacities with Chuikov being the general in charge of ops in Stalingrad and Zhukov in charge of the whole of the Stalingrad front .

People have this opinion and for the beginning of the war on the Eastern Front it is accurate, but when the Soviets actually saw success under the command of Generals such as Zhukov it was due to out thinking the Germans, good use of production and fantastic logistics.

The Soviets destroyed the Germans because they had way more equipment in the end than the German's could ever have mustered. This hunkering down thing and making due with low supply for the good of the Motherland is Soviet bollocks, millions died or were captured and they only began to win when the party got their **** together and brought in capable young officers.

The Russian Empire also waged many campaigns for example against the Swedish Empire and the Ottomans were they won due to strategic superiority. The last Romanov relied on numbers and lost both a crucial war against Japan and essentially, WW1. The Soviets lost both the Winter War and the beginnings of WW2 due to these exact same mistakes. Putin apparently loves history, he's wrote a thesis on Russian history, yet he's not learnt a thing from it.

I still hold that Russia's greatest military victory and strategic brilliance was the defeat of Napoleon. The Tsar was the first to out think Napoleon and prove he was not invincible.
