This Saturday another 20 names will be added , a few surprises but worthy no less . http://swanstrust.co.uk/news/More-Names-to-be-added-to-Wall-of-Fame.aspx
Well deserved to all but surprised by Steven Jenkins whose time here deserves credit but best years were elsewhere, but then I cannot grumble cos Tommy Hutch (legend) would be the same. During my early years as a Jack, Frankie B was public enemy number one. Who would have thought then, the honour now bestowed him, the Jack Bastard! Congrats to all !
I do believe that Bob Latchford is already on there, never. Totally agree re Jimmy and Ante. For me,space should also be found for Roberto Martinez;Jason Scotland;Angel Rangel;Barrie Jones;Tom Kiley;Johnny King, and Trevor Ford.
The intention is for 20 added at a time ,so there's time for new names to be added and who knows Legends yet to be created
Couldn't see Latchford but great if he's on there. Agree on your list as well, plus as mentioned think Martinez, Leon should be added. Perhaps even Monk and Tate after they have risen through the ranks with the club.
Monk and Tate are good shouts, and I feel a bit guilty for not having mentioned them earlier. Who actually gets to select these "names"? Are the fans' involved at all? The aim seems to be 100 names, over a five year period, bit I wonder if that will be enough to satisfy demand.
The premise for the Wall was based on the following Phil Sumbler, of the trust, said: "We've basically got 20 names going on today which we've inducted over the course of the last two annual awards dinners at the club. "You are going to see names from right back in the 20s like Wilf Milne, Len Thompson and people like that, right up to the modern day where we've got people like Roger Freestone and Lee Trundle going in as well." 'Big part' He said the supporters' trust had got together and come up with a simple criterion for being included. "It doesn't matter how many games they've played, how many goals they've scored, it's just really people who we believe have played a big part in shaping the hundred years of Swansea City," he said. "What we're going to do is enter 10 at every awards' dinner until we get to 100." Some may feel there will someone missed but it has (imo) to be selective otherwise it devalues what it is meant to stand for
Not wishing to be a Victor Meldrew but I'm not keen on this at all. Where will it end? Who is deserving and who is not? It's likely to be controversial and even divisive. Statues and plaques should be reserved for those who had major (in the truest sense) impact on our Club and maybe even had a direct effect on its fortunes, not just for those who did well for us whilst they were here. I really sound like a grouch.
The current Trust members are part custodians of the club therefore I would imagine there will be names on there which won't please everyone but thats football it's ,all about opinions I suppose
To many deserving names to mention and will fill the stadium wall if all included plus the scrap thieves will think their pure brass and nick em If anyone can be named then I think even though his leaving wasn't amicable Andy Robson was a good player for our club and helped our rise up the leagues alongside trunds and it was great to watch him in his form days here ?
