http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/football-news/2012/10/22/comment-swansea-fans-must-realise-there-is-no-divine-right-to-premier-league-status-91466-32076761/

I may be going out on a limb here but he does have a point. There is an element of our fanbase that thinks we have a divine right to be beating "the likes of Wigan" and we do need to realise that we are in the Premier League and every point is precious and hard-earned.
Though claiming it's a 'fact' that we'll be caught in a relegation fight is total bollox. It isn't a fact at all, not yet anyway!!! He makes a good point about the Wigan game, if they had been given the second goal would we all have turned into Private Frazer, shouting "we`re doomed", just a thought.

There are lot of Swans fans who've got carried away with our great start and expect us to be pushing for a European Cup slot. You've got to agree that this season, and for that matter every other should we stick around in the Prem, will be a scrap for survival. You've only got to look at this forum after a couple (or 3) defeats to confirm the point Wathan made in that article.

Last season, we were a "breath of fresh air" for the premiership. This season, we're those "upstarts" from South West Wales, who are not struggling as much as we should be in our second season. Feck knows how we'll be perceived next season, when we've put 2 fingers up to second season syndrome......favourite candidates for third season syndrome maybe?

Media are full of envious t***s who just can't wait to say "we told you so"...its never going to be easy, but we've just got to keep proving the barstewards wrong...what better MOTIVATION could we hope for.
Allow me to present a few opinions which I believe may be true, thus making them facts.
1. We are still pretty paranoid towards anything cardiffcity.
2. CCFC are desperate to see us out of the PL and replaced by them. That is dreamland for them.
3. The novelty is over and its hard graft to stay in the PL.

He may be writing that hoping for it to come true or for effect. Either way, its down to us to prove everyone wrong which is the best motivation. No question in my eyes we are eyeing three clubs to lose games regularly to form a relegation trio, hopefully including QPR whcih I`d suggest 100% of us want. Make that 99%. So long as we at least equal the points the bottom 3 get for the rest of the season, I`ll be very happy.

I dont think you can dismiss a Wigan club as crap, when they have survived in this league for 8 years. Reading scored 2 goals at Stamford Bridge. They are supposed to be a poor team, yet they were leading us by 2 goals, not so poor perhaps? There are no easy games in this league. Who are we to think otherwise?

P.S. The only photo they could find was of Allen, Siggy, Caulker & Sinclair, all Swansea players!!!!
I do think we'll stay up but on a game by game basis, were gonna have to roll our sleeves up for every point.

Swansea smear campaign ??

Nice to see the Wales online post yet another negative story about the Swans, this time about how are fans are becoming unrealistic!! following on from last weeks revelations of apparent unrest(which by all accounts were actually made back in the summer,so a non-issue nowadays) i cant help but get the feeling that the Anti- Swans Welsh media are cranking up the pressure on the team, manager and fans!

As the regular posters probably know, i love a conspiracy theory! but the basis for this latest article from Wales online is totally unfounded! 99.9% of swans fans are totally aware of the difficult job it is to be in the prem league and stay there, the article paints a picture of us fans being unrealistic and of us being ungreatful, something that i think is totally untrue of us.

Personally i think whatever chance they get to kick us in the bollocks they will take it! i think last season the welsh media had a major problem slagging us off because Brenden and the National media had such a love-in that it would have been a clear case of sour grapes if the cardiff/welsh media said anything different, they probably spent the whole of last season biting their lip and praying for us to **** up so the negative stories could flow and de-rail our confidence.

I cant help but think there is an aganda against the Swans with th Welsh media, if they are reporting things as they see them then surely they are seeing 99% of jacks being realistic and supporting the boys in their efforts on the field??
Bad stories sell papers(apparently) im guessing they will sell a few more in cardiff if there is negative **** to read about the swans, im not a stupid guy and feel there is an undercurrent of jealousy that is starting to bubble over in the capital, they hate the fact we are there and they will do everything to make sure our stay there is as uncomfortable as possible by the looks of it.

What the article says to me is nothing but the ****ing obvious! we all know its going to be hard,we all know there are games you target,we all know there is anxiety amongst fams when we need 3pts its just plain daft to write about it and put it in a negative spin IMO.

Here are a few snippets for you "It left you wondering what would have happened had victory been eschewed.

Would there have been boos? Would there have been those moping around akin to Private Frazer claiming that the Jack Army were as doomed as Dad’s?

The fact remains that Swansea will be in a relegation battle this year. And – if they succeed – the year after that, and the year after that. And so on, and so on"

Think we know how hard it is going to be, but why cant we acheive what the Stokes,Fulhams and wigans of this world have acheive? ie, solid premiership performances for a number of seasons, while growing steadily off the field? If its one thing swans fans are they are realists, try telling the cardiff fans with their£70m pound debt and dodgy owner to be realistic, not us swans fans who know exactly what life is like is the prem league.

While his article does make some fair points, i feel he has treated us with disrespect and that will always sell a few extra copies in the city of cardiff.

See what your take is on the article.

One thing i must say. the comment about us always being in a relelgation dogfight, really? we wernt last year!!

It echo's Sam hamamm's comment of "swansea will never reach the premier leaugue, there is only one team that has a chance of that and its cardiff city" or words to that effect ...<laugh>

Nobody is saying we are here to stay, none of us are saying that, but if this article doesnt make the jack faithful circle the wagons then nothing will!!

I don't call being tenth in the table a point behind Arsenal and a couple of points above mighty ****ing Liverpool (everybody bow in reverence) a relegation battle.

The best way to "censor" this sort of bias and ignorant lazy journalism is not to buy it. Sadly there is a segment of our own kind for whom chronic failure at the last gasp and wretched financial management has induced some sort of self lobotomy .... Either that or their batteries are running low and they can't afford a recharge.

Best to ignore out of pity.

I thankfully dont buy it anymore Yankee, i used to have an account to download wales on sunday but decided they could **** off !!

Its getting past the point of being the odd snide article nowadays and its turning into a witch hunt ...for a successful team that has done everything by the book and gained success.
The cardiff city angle is the main one, i talked before how the whole city of cardiff is financially tuned to gaining prem status and the longer they dont have it the more the financial effects will damage the billion pound investment in the area, everybody is sweating over it ,from the welsh assembly to the local/national buisness investors to the crook from malaya who has liking for all things red.

What i cant see is why they wish to destroy another club and damage the image of wales as a country. Its the classic "dim somebody elses candle to make your own burn brighter"

They are Jealous of our club and prem status of that there is no doubt, what we need to do as fans is make sure every person who watches us is aware of the agenda to damp us down and damage our team and city.

Swanee, without wishing to be pedantic you should probably change "diving right" to "divine right" just so there's no misunderstanding. <laugh>

Here's the thing Norway .... going forward our future lies in reaching markets outside South Wales and harvesting revenue from those sources. Our gate receipts will be dwarfed by revenue from the media and merchandise sales to non-local markets. This renders any negativity from that little rag quite impotent. It's the only way to become a big club and it's the only way the big clubs stay afloat. We are breaking through a barrier that keeps the little clubs little and the big clubs big.

Cardiff is doomed to stay a little club unless they figure out how not to choke when it comes down to the wire and actually get the right football and business philosophy and stick to it.

We on the other hand are well positioned to move forward and take advantage of the benefits of becoming "big" (with a small "b"), which (if we keep doing all the little things right) will ease us onto a trajectory to becoming "Big" (with a capital "B"). We have a lot of key pieces in place (HJ, ML, board, staff, players ... the whole works) ... the money we are about to harvest will prudently fund the continued build out on top of that foundation.

well, i just checked my copy of the echo and there is not one word in the entire sports section to do with swansea.

its a cardiff paper for cardiff fans and they dont make any bones about that, are you talking about the western mail?

EDIT: just read the article, its very negative and says that swansea will always be battling against the drop, but isnt that true of 10-12 premierleague clubs?

You got to laugh at that article by Chris Wathan, it must surely be a wum, as nothing makes sense in it, notice he has had 30 bites, seems there's a lot of 'Brown Jack Trouts' to be caught, notice one was 'OssieJack', maybe there are some who think we have a divine right to be beating teams like Wigan, but I'm sure Mr Wathan knows most Jacks, don't think like that, and Wigan are a good footballing side that turned the corner last season, and most Jacks know all games are hard fought at this level, something his Little Kairdiff side will find out, should they ever reach the promised land!...........<laugh>

Totally in agreement Swanee , while we shudder in our boots about facing the MAN U's & Chelsea's , we should keep in mind the problems we've had against the Readings & such in the past .

Got to be honest, whilst the article is a bit insensitive to us, I have found that Wathan has tended to give us a fair crack of the whip in the past during podcasts etc. There are worse out there but I do agree that the Western "Fail" is well and truly biased to all things Cardiff. Pathetic lot.

Yeah i heard he was a Jack, none the less he wants a good arse kicking for writing such drivel, all the positives to write about and the prick wants to talk about dads army,us being doomed and a relegation dogfight!!

There will always be moaning fans but the press should give a balanced view on things and he certainly doesnt do that.. prick IMO. <ok>
