What do you all make of the results?

    *

    1) PLAYER OF SEASON

Predictably man of the moment Wilfried Bony won this by a country mile, his glut of goals helping the Swans to a top 12 finish in the Premier League.

But interestingly, unsung wide-man Wayne Routledge was comfortably the next best.

    THE VOTE:

    Wilfried Bony: 78%

    Wayne Routledge: 11%

    Ben Davies: 1%

    Ashley Williams: 2%

    Leon Britton: 4%

    Jonjo Shelvey: 4%

    *

    2) WHO WAS MICHAEL LAUDRUP’S BEST SIGNING?

Ivory Coast ace Bony wins this one again... and once more hands down.

Even more overwhelmingly, in fact, with only Jonjo Shelvey netting another significant portion of the poll.

    THE VOTE:

    Jordi Amat: 0.5%

    Alejandro Pozuelo: 0.5%

    Jonjo Shelvey: 13%

    Wilfried Bony: 85%

    David Ngog: 0.5%

    Jay Fulton: 0.5%

    *

    3) BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT:

In a roller-coaster year of highs and lows, the moment that hurt Swans fans most was defeat to arch-rivals Cardiff in the first Premier League Welsh derby.

To compound matters that day, the winning goal was scored by Steven Caulker... a former Swans fans’ idol.

That loss to the Bluebirds was much worse, in your eyes, than abject displays against West Ham and West Brom, or the agonising end of the European dream.

    THE VOTE:

Losing to Cardiff City 1-0: 42.5%

Losing to West Ham 2-0: 16%

    Michael Laudrup sacking: 8.5%

Losing to Napoli in the San Paolo Stadium: 14.5%

Losing at home to West Brom: 18.5%

    *
    *

    4) BEST MOMENT

Revenge is sweet, one presumes, because the victory over Cardiff in the return Welsh derby at the Liberty Stadium was voted your sweetest moment as Swansea fans.

The stunning triumph over Valencia at the Mestalla ran it close, though.

    THE VOTE:

    3-0 win over Valencia: 42%

    Wilfried Bony signing: 3%

    Garry Monk appointment: 2%

3-0 win over Cardiff City: 48%

    2-1 win over Newcastle: 5%
    *
    *

    5) BEST PERFORMANCE

Although the win over Cardiff was your favourite moment, the triumph in Valencia was ranked the finest 90-minute display.

Michael Laudrup’s men sent out a statement to European football that night.

    THE VOTE:

    Valencia away (3-0): 59%

    Sunderland home (4-0): 1%

    Newcastle home (3-0): 3.5%

Man Utd away FA Cup (2-1): 10.5%

    Cardiff home (3-0): 23%

    Aston Villa home (4-1): 3%

    *

    6) DID YOU AGREE WITH MICHAEL LAUDRUP’S SACKING?

Straightforward question. A surprise outcome or not?

    Judge for yourself.

    THE VOTE:

    Yes: 78.5%

    No: 21.5%

    *
    *

    7) DO YOU AGREE WITH GARRY MONK’S APPOINTMENT?

Another straightforward question. As for the outcome, again judge for yourself.

    THE VOTE:

    Yes: 76.5%

    No: 23.5%

    *
    *

    8) WHERE WILL SWANSEA CITY FINISH NEXT SEASON?

So what do you anticipate for Monk’s men in 2014-15?

Expectation is high, with the majority believing a top 10 spot is firmly within reach.

    THE VOTE:

    Champions League position: 0.5%

    Europa League position: 1.5%

    Top six: 2%

    Top 10
    : 66%

    Bottom half: 27%

    Relegated: 3%

(Swansea City's 2013/14 Premier League finish...)

    11 Crystal Palace 38 45
    12 Swansea City 38 42
    13 West Ham United 38 40
    *

    9) WHICH OFF-FIELD INCIDENT WAS THE WORST?

The Swans, normally such a well run club, made headlines for the wrong reasons over the course of the campaign.

There was Laudrup’s controversial dismissal, coupled with unwanted headlines about training ground incidents.

Your vote on this was very much split.

    THE VOTE:

Chico and Garry Monk training ground spat: 28.5%

    Michael Laudrup sacking: 35%

April training ground bust-up termed “a couple of incidents between certain players”: 36.5%

    10) HOW MANY PLAYERS DO YOU THINK SWANSEA CITY SHOULD SIGN THIS SUMMER?

As with Cardiff, Swans fans accept the squad needs strengthening with up to six players during the close season.

    THE VOTE:

None - the current squad is good enough: 0.5%

    1-3: 34.5%

    4-6: 63.5%

    7-10: 1.5%

    11) HOW MUCH MONEY WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE GARRY MONK SPEND THIS SUMMER?

Players don’t come cheap in the Premier League and you reckon anything between £11m and £20m will be required for the Swans to strengthen in the transfer market and kick on again.

    THE VOTE:

    Nothing: 0.51%

    £1m - £5m: 1%

    £6m - £10m: 6%

    £11m - £15m: 28%

    £16m - £20m: 38%

    £21 - £25m: 16%

    More than £25m: 10.5%

    12) WHICH PLAYER WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO KEEP?

That many Bony again. Your overwhelming choice of the player who cannot be let go.

Intriguingly, though, Michu - last year’s flavour of month - could leave this time without too many Swans fans batting an eyelid.

    THE VOTE:

    Wilfried Bony: 85%

    Michu: 6.5%

    Michel Vorm: 2%

    Jonjo Shelvey: 5.5%

    Neil Taylor: 1%

    13) WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE KI SUNG-YUENG BACK IN THE SIDE?

The Korean star joined Sunderland in controversial fashion last season and helped spearhead their successful battle against relegation.

You want him straight back... and in Monk’s starting X1.

    THE VOTE:

    Yes: 82.5%

    No: 17.5%

    14) ARE YOU GLAD TO SEE THE BACK OF CARDIFF CITY AND THE DERBY?

An outcome that speaks for itself.

    THE VOTE:

    Yes: 61%

    No: 39%

    15) DO THINK GARRY MONK WILL STILL BE THE SWANSEA CITY MANAGER THIS TIME NEXT YEAR?

Despite what happened to Michael Laudrup, Swansea’s Board of directors tend to back their managers.

Your are confident Garry Monk will be afforded that support and still in situ at the end of the 2014-15 Premier League campaign.

    THE VOTE:

    Yes: 83%

    No: 17%

The only thing that slightly surprised me there was 76.5% agreeing with Monk's appointment.

I was a bit surprised too. I think it just shows that a lot of people are cautiously optimistic about the appointment. The question's a bit black and white, I couldn't say that I 100% agree with the appointment, but I'm pretty optimistic that it will turn out to be a very shrewd signing.

I like the rationale that by securing Monk early, we can now focus on player signings early in the window. Whereas, if we decided to not go with Monk, we'd have spent a month of the Summer recruiting for a manager, and as a result we'd be a month behind on player recruitment.

Yeah, not representative of the supporters I know and the general feeling on here.

Also 80 odd % want to see Ki in the first team next season? A lot seemed to be on his back when he was actually in the team...

Interesting that 66% think that Top 10 next season is achievable too. I'm in that 66%. As things stand, I can see us in 8th or 9th next season challenging with Southampton. Maybe I'll think differently by the time we kick our first ball of the season, we'll see how the Summer goes.

I'm feeling more optimistic, now the dust has settled a bit. You have to be really, that's what supporting does to you!

Bigkidderz you make a good point about securing Monk early. And from what Huw said in the article posted in another thread, he's making all the right noises for me. Quite positive.

Edit: I think top 10 is doable also. Depends how the others strengthen but I thought that last season and it didn't really happen. Sorting us defensively is the priority for me.

I think top 10 is achievable but the question states; "WHERE WILL SWANSEA CITY FINISH NEXT SEASON?"

I would have answered bottom half.

Realistically top 10 is the furthest we can go. that means 66% think next season will be the best season possible, as good as anything we've done yet.....
While I'm optimistic, always, I don't see how people come to that conclusion.

Terror - I can only speak for myself but reality and punditry don't mix

If the bottom half's as poor as this season then top 10's actually a realistic target. Big "if" that though.

Agree. Next season there are two key areas for improvement for me:

    1. Defensively - scoring 54 goals was pretty incredible for us this season given the circumstances. 25 (46%) of those goals coming in Monk's 14 games (37% of league matches). However, conceding 54 goals is too many. Especially when a lot of those goals were soft and of our own making. It felt like we struggled to keep clean sheets this season (but we did manage 8 in total).

    2. Performance against the Top 7 - our results against the top 7 speak for themselves. We took 2 points off them (1 off Arsenal by Monk, and 1 off Liverpool by Laudrup). Just so people know the records of respective managers this season, Monk faced Top 7 teams 4 times in 14 games (29%), Laudrup faced Top 7 teams 10 times in 24 games (42%). Look into those figures as you will. The Monk lovers will say that Monk took 1 point from 4 games compared to 1 point from 10. But the Laudrup lovers will say that this justifies why Monk earned more points in the latter part of the season - easier run in. Either way, we were flipping shocking against the Top 7 this season, and must take more than 2 points off them next season!

I was expecting the Monk appointment and Ki returning to be closer to 50-50.

As for league position., top 10 is achievable if the right sort of player us brought in. Will be happy anywhere from 8th-12th.

The only thing I will say about that poll is that Cardiff city had 68 % of fans wanting to remain red !

As we all know many jacks voted and it was a total nonsense to gleam any accurate feeling .

Like most people first priority is to get safe then see where we go, I hope we can get a decent start which will give monk some self belief and the team confidence, if we hit our form and consistency then we should do ok.

Our defense is woeful yet I think it won't be touched, this will be the true test for monk, most of the back four are his mates and I am hoping he can make the tough decisions when needed.
Ash needs to be bang on his game and the threat of being dropped should he be playing poor must be taken,I think we have decent potential with amat and Bartley and Liverpool away last year aside ( Bartley) they haven't really let us down.

I don't want to see players picked on reputation if Garry wants to be successful he will need to be strong in that aspect .

Overall I'm wishing Garry and the boys all the luck , we got the rub towards the end of the season but it's fair to say it took months to get it going our way, every manager and team needs a bit of luck, things are mega tight in the prem league and we saw how close we got to a relegation struggle by being conned out of 3 pts home to stoke and potential 3 pts home to west ham.

Should be an interesting summer in the transfer market that's for sure ;)

I think we need a new right back. Still a massive fan of Rangel but hes 31? now. Its a big ask for any 31 year old to be keeping up with premier league wingers and also contributing to our attacks - which is what we need our full backs to do.
Spend a bit of money on a proven young full back and id be happy with our defense for the season then. Oh and Monk needs to tell Ash to get his thumb out of his ass.

I don't believe the polls for the same reasons that Norway stated.
I can't honestly believe the amount of people who a) wanted Laudrup sacked and b)wanted Monk in charge.
I think a lot of Cardiff fans voted in retaliation to Jack voting for them to stay red.

    Waste of time.

Every poll I've looked at showed a reversal of this one. Like you, I suspect sabotage from Redtits supporters.

Wales on line has the same appeal for me as BBC Wales and Western Mail, so I didn't vote.
