How is it possible that even after Walcott scores two goals across the two legs of our CL tie, basicaly getting us qualified for the CL proper, that he still gets stick from the fans. In several comments today i have seen people saying Waclott is ****. Well he isn't. I think it's incredibly unfair the critisism he faces from the fans when in actual fact he is a quality player who really tries hard for the team and scores important goals. I expect to see him pushing for 20 goals this season. With everyone getting overexcited by Gervinho (who i think is a great player), it seems people find it easier to slate Theo - but this thread is to say "Thank You Theo". Your goals have helped us massively this season already and i look forward to seeing you prove your doubters wrong. Thoughts on Theo?
He needs some service if he is going to be better down the middle than out on the wings - but I think this may be his year..
I think that comment made by Waddle that he has no football brain is like an anchor around his ankle. I still wonder what his preferred position is. I think consistency is his biggest let down, maybe it is down to his injury record, hopefully he will manage to go a full season without injury. I thought Lennon was better than him 18mths ago, saw the Manure game, and Lennon looked out of sorts. I think Theo is a confidence player, it does not help Sven that put him in his world cup squad as a teenager, and the fans expect too much from him.
I have No idea!! Walcott was excellent last night. I've also noticed that he's bulked up a little and looks pretty strong on the ball now. Walcott has said he aims to get at least 18 goals this Season. If he stays fit I think he'll score around 20. The guy has unbelieveable pace and is a natural finisher. (Ok he cant cross but who cares?)
Great article. I think people forget just how young he is as well. On his day he has the potential to be a match winner.
Yeah i think too much expectation was put on his shoulders as a young kid - i mean, he was only 16 at the world cup! This has meant he hasn't been given the time and patience that he should of been while improving. He is stil lyoung and now he is starting to play very well - am excited about his contribution this season. Our wings/wing forwards are looking very dangerous.
We'll have him back at Saints if you lot don't want him. You can keep the other one though, he's a bit of a c**t really, a bit like Nasri.
I don't like Walcott as a winger - he is kack and a bad decision maker. However, when played up front, as I have said before, he is very good. Why Wenger insists on playing him out of position is beyond me, he should never get in front of Shaun Wright-Phillps, Ashley Young or Stewart Downing as a winger. Through on goal Walcott is magnificent, we should be playing him on the shoulder of the last defender and utilising his pace - he offers something up front that nobody else does - pace - when was the last time we made a successful counter attack ? We always slow it down and play tippy tappy in front of defenders.
I've believed for a while now, in fact back in 08/09 that Theo Walcott is more happy in the role of a striker. If we have a playmaker that could feed him or when the opportunity presents itself as when he scored against Chelsea last autumn his speed and focus make him virtually unstoppable. We have the makings of an effective strike force if they are played to their strengths.
That's what i'm looking forward to seeing this season - fast paced counter attacking football. With Walcott, Gervinho, Arshavin, Oxocube, Miyaichi, Campbell we have some very pacey players (yeah i know arshavin is a bit fat these days lol) in our attacking line. We should see this get used to better effect this year. It will just require our CM players to distribute the ball well - so lets hope someone is playing well in the middle this year!
its the interchanging that is helping him a hell of a lot last season he didnt and now hes getting us goals. as for the stick he gets i think its because when he signed for us everyone put a high expectation on him but due to injuries and lack of form ppl are coming down on him hard. when he scored the hat trick for england everyone thought he was the dogs bollocks and expected him to perform like that every game
It was silly expecting him to maintain that level of performance in his early years. Give him time and opportunity and he would be someone other clubs will want to have. They as we know, can take a hike.
No Lee ... people come down on him hard because he mostly has no end product and looks completely clueless and out of his depth .. when played as a winger.
I assume he has been played as a winger to improve his overall play and that the aim is to move him more central at some near point in his career. I hope lol
everyone jumps on the media bandwagon with any player, rooney for example they had a right go at him for wanting out then he signs a big contract, a few months later hes now a "fergie babe" same with steven howard last few days hes gave arsene and arsenal some right stick, i bet today he aint got one bad word to say about them.
Yeah alot of people jumped on the Walcott has no football brain bandwagon - which has to be one of the ****tiest things to happen to poor theo lol
look at the size of him! do you think that he wont get owned by ferdinand/vidic etc if h plays down the middle? i read on here last 2 days or so that he might have baulked up a bit this season. if he carries on doing well wenger will move him up front
