Earlier in the season Walcott seemed to divide Arsenal fans with some of them happy for him to leave, something that seemed very much on the cards. Walcott demanded to play as a striker and in fairness has played well and scored many goals. Have opinions now changed on this player?
I have the same opinion of him. Very good against certain opposition (i.e. those we can counter attack, and those without an organized defense), anonymous against the rest.
Bristol city fan in peace here. Walcott is quality. Sometimes he disappears in games but he's a match winner. 20 goals so far in this season is great for him and you. I did read some of the critism he was receiving. Thought it was a bit harsh. I watch my team every game and can tell a great player when I see one and he is a very talented player. Glad you've kept him. I do think he best position is on the right wing. Would be quality with someone like Villa next to him upfront. Hope you finish 3rd and good luck for the rest of the season
Went off the boil after the Liverpool game in January, but on the whole has been one of the few positives this season. First time he has ever scored 20 goals in all competitions and had some excellent games.
Strikers always score in bursts. He is better against the better teams, because he can't score against a packed defence. I would be playing him as a striker in the big games. Leave Giroud or another in for the teams with the crowded penalty areas.
I think Walcott got so lucky with timing. We had a bad run before Christmas which also coincided with speculation Liverpool wanted him and he himself wanted to play up front as our front line was struggling, all this forced AWs hands and he was offered a lucritive contract extension, we were desperate and even fans in here were hailing him as the clubs saviour. He is another in a long line of Arsenal players to get overpaid...
He seems to have improved gradually over the last few seasons, but imo he still lacks that killer top-quality player streak of versatility. He is still a great player in certain games, not a pick for every week.
The criticism of Torres is that he cost £50m and looks a pale shadow of the the player we saw in his few season at Liverpool. Otherwise he's a decent player.
It's 13 league goals and no doubt there will be split opinion on whether we think that represents value for the 100 bags a week he collects, for a guy who's stayed fit all season I think he's been a little inconsistent
