What is going on with Walcotts contract?

All this "talk" about RVP and Song ... what about Walcott?

    I hope he stays.

I see no reason why'd he'd want to leave. He is a big part of the Arsenal team these days, his future is with us <ok>

Agents whispering in young ears can do the damage.... I hope he is more sensible and stays....but we live in the land where money talks....as we have seen so often.

Talking about Walcott, he also pulled out of that stupid friendly with Italy.

It seems to me like the money for players has tightened up this year. Either FFP really is going to have some influence or now that Manchester City have won, the owners are bored, like the ones at Malaga.

I just get the impression that 70M-90M might be as much as Walcott can get out in the free market. At his age a steady job with Arsenal might be preferable to a year or two with Manchester City or Chelsea and then being tossed onto the scrap heap.

I am fairly confident Song and Walcott will sign again for Arsenal. They are both very intelligent sensible men. The sort that people used to call solid professionals. I think they realize that if Arsenal do capture a league title their career will be considered great, but if they sign with Chelsea or Manchester City, winning a trophy will be so much less significant.

Not wumming - a serious question.

Do you think the stick he took during some games at the Emerates have put him off signing a a new contract?

Well, I don't think that the booing and the stick a small section of our fans give to our players helps, but on the other hand I get the impression that Wenger deals with it all quite well. I think in the long run, the players realize that if they win, the lean years will be a dim and distant memory. Most long-standing Arsenal fans aren't really that upset. We know that when we do win, it is sweeter than if you win something every year, because you seem to value it more.

Cheers ... was just wondering... I understand fans booing at the end of a match (I don't necessarily agree with it but I do understand) but am at a loss as to why fans boo and jeer during a game. The most recent example was walcott in the 5-2 game...he was given merciless stick by a minority who I guess refused to cheer when he scored both his goals <doh> All teams have plastics I guess...another contribution to football from sky! (how old do I sound?????) <laugh>

I was there, and that's OTT. Yes, people were grumbling and most of us were very tense because of who we were playing and what it meant, but still Theo was having a bit of a mare in that first half, he was failing to even do the basics, properly.

No offence meant - on TV it came across as jeering rather than grumbling - but I stand corrected.

I want Walcott to stay, and sign a new contract, but if he doesn't, i'm not all too concerned because he'll simply be replaced by the OX. Walcott has taken years to finally start reaching his potential, whereas OXO seems to be the player we all wanted Walcott to be, he's flourishing, and greatly progressing.

I was impressed by Theo on Sunday, he showed a good understanding with Giroud in particular, they seemed aware of each others abilities etc. If we can get Theo to play like that more often, then he's well worth his place, and shouldn't be sold.

Walcott is one of our most effective players. Despite the (in my opinion) unfounded critisism he has recieved he has scored and got assists over the last 2 seasons which have helped keep us where we are. He has been more important than peoplee have realised and this season he formed a brilliant partnership with RVP and worked well with Sagna and Rosicky too.

Off the ball he is brilliant and he creates loads of space for our other forwards. Not to mention his obvious advantage of pace on the counter and getting in behind the defense. He also ups his game against the big teams (goals against Chelsea, Tottenham, Barca etc..).

I very much hope we keep him at Arsenal and think he will prove his worth over the next few years and show why Wenger has shown faith in him.

That being said, we do have good options for the wide positions (Oxocube, Gervinho, Podolski etc...) and think these players would cover the quality in the first team should Walcott go, but it would not be good for the squad overall. I am very happy with the options we have at the moment out wide and hope not to lose any of them! Being able to pick and choose between those mentioned and possibly Arshavin (who AW said still had a career at the club if he is willing to work for it) is fantastic squad depth for those positions.

The sensible thing would have been staying at Southampton for another year or so :p
