Bristol City to 'wait and see' as final week of the transfer market approaches
Nigel Pearson explains that if there are late opportunities the club will look into them but as it stands there is no change on sell-to-buy policy

There are just 12 days of the summer transfer window, with player moves slowing to a trickle in recent days across the English game with the new season beginning.

Whether the EFL and Premier League market ramps up in the volume of deals completed as we get closer to the window shutting or whether the lack of finance across the game - caused by the effects of the covid pandemic - continues to influence what football teams do, remains to be seen.

Bristol City have brought in three new faces this summer, and renewed the deals of Nathan Baker, Danny Simpson and Andi Weimann, and manager Nigel Pearson has not ruled out any late moves before the 11pm August 31 deadline.

We asked Pearson if the plan has changed for the final days of the transfer window, with the City boss having explained previously that there would have to be outgoings before any further arrivals.

"No, as it stands there’s no intention or there’s no scope at the moment for us to operate in a different way," explained the 57-year-old on Wednesday afternoon.

"So it’s wait and see. I’m not ruling anything in or out but it’s not something I spend a lot of time thinking about.

"My priority is with the players that we’ve got here and if there are opportunities to change things, we’ll approach it in a very straightforward way. But as it stands, there’s no changes."

Bristol City face Swansea City and Cardiff City ahead of the transfer window closing, with the chance of local bragging rights and adding to Tuesday night's three points collected at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

For the Robins to make true progress this season, the West Country outfit must do better on their own patch of turf in BS3.

Pearson says that the crowds at Ashton Gate can make a difference.

"I think the players and everybody at the club appreciates the backing that the fans give us. It’s really important for us," he explained.

I've said before, we have to get our fans going sometimes but it’s also very important for our players that the fans give us their support.
"We have to work hard at that because there’s no doubt that they can add a different dimension.

"Hopefully on Friday night we get a good performance. More importantly, we get three points and it allows us to look forward but I don’t take anything for granted," said the City manager.

The Robins complete a sequence of three games in six days before they wait eight days to face the Bluebirds in Cardiff.

12 days to go, will we get that striker and right back or wait until January when the coffers have been topped up.

Now..we could be in a relegation battle by January, who's gonna want to come then!! We need to get going now as we are renowned for a poor 2nd half of the season...IMO

I’m resigned to not getting anyone, if we do it’ll be a bonus. On the other hand are we going to lose anyone?
