Rangers forward Martyn Waghorn confronts school kid on street corner after being called "s****"

In the video above, Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn can be seen confronting a schoolboy on a street corner after being called "s****".

The incident took place in Giffnock, reports the Daily Record .

The 26-year-old, who came through the Sunderland youth system, has only notched one goal so far this term - a far cry from the 20 in 25 last season.

Clearly unable to handle the criticism, Waghorn, while armed with a bumper bag of fish and chips, almost goes nose to nose with the youngster.

The Englishman then storms towards the apparent culprit, who seems remarkably unfazed as the furious forward demands that he "say it to me face" in his thick Wearside accent.

The schoolboy, from high-achieving secondary school St Ninians, appears to casually repeat his allegation while nonchalantly munching a sandwich.

Waghorn, who is several inches shorter than the lad, seems satisfied with the reaction and is heard saying 'good lad' before walking off.

Reaction online has ranged from hilarity to anger as the video of the out-of-form stiker quickly amassed thousands of views.

One tweeted: "Come say it to meh face" says the pro Rangers player and grown man, Martyn Waghorn to a school boy cause he called him s***e hahahahaha fud."

Another wrote: "Big man waghorn square going a 15 year old for calling him s***e".

And a particularly popular tweet read: "Martyn Waghorn does walking away".

One, however, contended that the 'abusive' teen's parents should be ashamed and that Waghorn was 'spot on' to confront him.

There was also comments made on the striker's choice of lunch, with many online querying why a professional athlete would be having chips for lunch midweek.

In Waghorn's defence, however, the Chippy, "Catch", was recently named the best in Scotland.

Think that's pretty fair. Be snide and insult a bloke you're likely going to get a reaction. Silly little boy.

Seemed like a cocky wee twat, acting the big 'un in front of his pals with the phone going. He should have given him a clip round the lugs.

Mobile phone to capture it all - set to brag in the schoolyard
But in fairness,as a pro footballer Waghorn should be prepared for these type of incidents and not react.

Looks like the little **** needs a lesson in respecting his elders. Fair play to Martyn.

He really shouldn't be reacting to taunts like this...I'm sure almost all pro footballers will get some stick some time or other..

Just a story of the stupid and the ignorent. Whole thing is pathetic and sad reflection of socioty. Kids being abusive to adults, and adults squaring up to kids, can't see any morall highground for anybody.

Not sure why the paper is using the "15 year old" as a beating stick. I was jumped by a 15 year old a few years ago and he was 6' 2" I'm 5' 6 myself. I did what I needed to do in self defence and I'd do it again. Although I think what waghorn did was funny when he walked off say ok then!!

The report's crap. He hardly storms towards the lad. Asks what he said, gets the response, walks away. He's unlikely to t*** him is he?

(Admittedly just watched this with no sound at work)
