But that this mean that Simpson is leaving?

    Fryatt
    McLean
    Adebola
    Simpson
    Waggy

Or just good with some more alternatives even though the bench is limited to 5?

I think Simpson will go rather than us keeping 5.

I'd hope it's only a loan deal with a recall clause though.

Great, another new signing we have to pretend is the next Pele.

4 in 30? Is it really what we need? I imagine this is more about Pearson getting somebody he knows in than it is about football.

Torres has scored 1 goal for Chelsea in 20 games ;) And I can't imagine that Waghorn has started many of his. And he has played with Fryatt before!

You're not the only one, but why are people so daft that they have to use scoring ratios as the only way to judge strikers? It's such a small-minded way of approaching football.

We all now there are several reasons that strikers might not have scored goals over a certain period. In Waghorn's case he has been used as a substitute most of the time and often on the wing too.

Even if scoring ratio was the only important factor to consider, it's not as if strikers maintain that ratio when moving between clubs. McLean was a goal machine at P'Boro and here he is the workhorse who rarely goes near the goal.

Kevin Davies hardly scores goals but he's a legend at Bolton, stats are for maths students and geeks I find

I think it's a good indication to how a striker will perform, he got 4 in 30 in the same league we're in, in a team that's better than ours. Doesn't exactly fit what we need, I'd be fine with a striker who concentrates on setting up others, if we had anyone who can score them. We don't, so I don't think this is a very good signing, it's more about NP getting another yes man than it is improving the team.

that was played on the right wing and as alot of sub appearances. His first season with them was pretty good. Sunderland wanted to keep him after it ended up selling him because they needed the cash for gyan.

I personally think he's a bit too much like Mclean, hes a workhorse, slightly better on the ball but less physical, we need a consistent quick finisher. i dont see the need for a big guy, not if we want to carry on playing the football were trying to.

Yeah but when we signed him McLean was a big goalscorer who got in behind defences. We use him for a completely different role.

We know nothing about how Waghorn will perform here or how he will be used. He might turn out to be a brilliant finisher.

Let's judge on him on what he actually does on the pitch for us rather than making our minds up before he even plays, like everyone did with Adebola.

It does look like it's a permanent and Baldock went for £2.75m

I agree with you on that - let's see how he plays/fits in before all sounding off.

Can you ever have anything positive to say about the signings we make? In his loan spell with Leicester he scored 12 goals in 43 appearances according to wikipedia (not sure how many of those sub apps) and didn't really have a chance to make an impact at Sunderland. Leicester spent £3 million on him last year for christ sakes and i imagine had they not got money in to buy mostly whoever they pleased he'd still be there. He's only young and can keep on improving. I'm not gonna say he's gonna be a world beater and hit 20 goals, i've not seen the lad play so couldn't possibly comment but unlike you i try and realistically see the good in the signings we make and how it can benefit the team. Plenty of managers go to former clubs for players it's nothing new.

Waggy will be a great signing for you buts its just a loan. I dont think he has a future here so you probaly will end up signing him. Waggy was brilliant when we had him on loan he was scoring goals and played brilliantly. He was back up for the 1st half of the season and when Matty broke his jaw Waggy got his chance and played up front on his own scoring goals and playing really well. Waggy and Matty havent really played up front together so havent got much of an understanding, both played better with Steve Howard next to them. Waggy last season didnt get much of a chance and we massively over paid for him (2M rising to 3M) We was struggling at the bottom and we all expected Waggy to turn our season around for us. He was played on the wing and struggled all season and played up front for 1 game and scored and then Sven came in. He never really got a chance under Sven. And when he did he was disappointing.

Nigel will know how to manage him and get the best out of him, Waggy is strong, fast and can score goals given a chance up front. His shooting from distance is awful as he blasts it into the stands everytime

Good luck for the season and hopefully Waggy does well for you. He is still liked by the Leicester fans

I think the line he and Matty both played better alongside Howard gives a bit of credence to Percy's claim myself. Waghorn may be good, he may turn out brilliant we dont know but he does not seem to be what we need.
Its a bit like Wenger refusing to sign a strong centre half or centre forward, i know i will go and buy a little tricky player instead. FFS.
We need a strong hold up man, then Fryatt Mclean and Simpson would thrive off him. Lets hope Leicester throw in Howard too.
