I'd take that... even if 400k, that's 400k for someone who won't be in our first team!? Works for me. Might even console me following the departure of dear McOxo.

I'd like to keep waggy, think he still has something to offer the team, even if it is off the bench. Don't understand where 750k has come from though!

I posted some weeks ago that if we got a decent offer for Waggy, I reckon we'd go for it - I don't particularly want to see him go, I want to see him reach his full potential, but I have to say that it's been a hell of a long time coming already and shows precious little sign of getting here.

Started on football rumours- but since it gathered pace, SLP confirmed tonight the club have received nothing from burnley.

Bit harsh, he's only 21 and just had his first season of regular starts. He scored a good number of goals and set up a few as well.

He's improved every season and I'm sure he will continue to improve.

I hope we keep Waggy, although 750k would be a good sum. But if we want strength in depth then selling decent youngsters is a bad policy.

Agree Ponders, but 750k could buy us a helluva lot in this division, and I'm less worried about selling youth when we're bringing in 21/22 year olds.

True, TVR. That sort of money would buy a great deal.

I just don't want our home-grown lads to leave. A big old romantic you could say.

This is a tricky one Davy...

I like Waggy and genuinely believe that with the right coaching he can become a real asset for us.

However, if the top end of the rumoured transfer fees are true i can see the logic in allowing him to move on. After all, that's good dough for someone who's likely to be warming the bench.

Our priority must be getting out of this league and with around 750k at his disposal the gaffer could bolster our squad by bringing in another couple of quality league one players with the potential to play at a higher level.

If he goes and the fee we get is reinvested in the squad, I'll be happy. If he goes and any fee is simply trousered then i believe our squad will be weaker for losing him.

Nowt wrong wi' that. Love to see the Valley lads come through from the ranks. Unfortunately until I see something solid, I agree with Super... not convinced this is genuine.

I've always been a big fan of Wagstaff to be honest and think some can be a bit harsh on him, he's got a good goal record for a winger and is pretty pacey too, his crossing needs improvement but generally I think he's a threat to opposition defenders.

BUT, buying Green for 400k roughly, and selling Waggy (who would presumably be back-up) for 700k would be sensible in the business sense.

Sorry, Scoham - I do respect your view, but he disappeared without trace from a disturbing amount of games last season that he should have been in a position to influence. As I say, I don't want him to go, but IMO his contribution has got to be more decisive and more consistent.

Wouldn't say he's surplus to requirements, off the top of my head he's our only other right-winger other than Green, who collects a fair share of cards (and incidentally is suspended for the first game). We're financially stable so it wouldn't make too much sense selling players who may have a role to play, just because the offer is decent.

I remember Waggy was a very exciting prospect in the 09/10 season. He had some great moments, such as getting that excellent winner vs Hartlepool and stuff.

Last season he didnt really do anything. Started well. Then again, most players bar Jackson failed to perform last season so maybe we should give him another chance

I think we'd be worse off for selling Wagstaff

Every promotion chasing squad has strength in depth, keeping Waggy gives us just that at RM and even up front

Wagstaff for me is a trier and that's all I ask from a Charlton player (as well as doing the basics of course!) and I certainly wouldn't want to see us sign a loan player to replace him either. Any new signing won't be happy at the prospect of playing 2nd fiddle to Green either.

Having a good size squad (a proper size squad) means we'll be able to play decent teams in the cup competitions and hopefully avoid our tradional giant-killings too

He scored the winner against Sheff Weds and should have played up front more often after that.

He is better than Abbott, Benson, Sodje and all the other dross we've employed - or continue to employ.
