<peacedove> Sometime when I look at current wages and cost of living it is unbelievable
how we have survived up till the present moment.
In the seventies if you are taking home £109 every week after all deductions you are doing
well living in London . I think outside London it was going to be something like £89 weekly.
Then in London, you pay something like £15 for monthly bus pass, now you pay nearly
£100. Then your pass is either for bus or underground you cannot use for both.
Now, earning less than £500 gross in London weekly is not a good news.
In the seventies you pay like £180 monthly for three bedroom flat: now you cannot
get it for a week in London.
A pint of larger in the seventies is under 50p now I am not sure if you can get it
    for £4.00 in London pubs.

This is Anfield - your figures from the 70s were they from before or after the World Fuel Crisis?

Whilst I agree with the living wage, Any one who complains about it being too expensive to live in London but chooses to live in London doesn't deserve sympathy. London is a **** hole for Tourists. Everywhere in the UK is better than London, live somewhere else.

I like London and can see why some would want to live there, there's so much do do and you have access to everything. Not for me on a personal basis but I enjoy visiting.

Cost of living there is daft I would suggest living there while you are young and then moving away to settle down, that would make sense to me but I'm sure there are people who would disagree.

I was over in Dublin for the game at the weekend and considering inflation there is high based on a weak economy and its the capital city the prices of beer and food and local travel around the city were better value than in London.

London prices are and have always been a false economy to the rest of the UK, anyone having a whinge about the cost of living etc down there should take Norman Tebbit's advice and "get on their bike" preferably to a more financially friendly part of the country.

I have a friend living in Worthing (Sussex) about 23 miles away from Brighton. He works in London and commutes
daily by train to London. He said it's cheaper for him.

a lot of them do that dribs, why Brighton is a poplar destination for them as half the ****ers come from there any way and commute each day. london wages without the london living prices( unless you are stupidly rich)

always baffled me why an over populated ****ehole was called the capital and a big issue was made out of a stoney beach lol

Still, London is not the most expensive city in the world.
    Most expensive cities
    Singapore
    • 2. Paris, France
    • 3. Oslo, Norway
    • 4. Zurich, Switzerland
    • 5. Sydney, Australia

Those living in London get more per person than the rest of England from the government coffers for a whole range of things and their average wage is higher to compensate for the cost of living in the capital.

Anyone from there having a moan should either consider moving or shut the **** up.
