R's cup adventure ends on south coast ...

INJURY-HIT QPR Ladies bowed out of the FA Women’s Cup with a third round defeat to Premier League side Portsmouth on Sunday.

Charley Wilson’s four-goal haul set Pompey on their way before Kirsty McGee added a fifth to seal the visitors’ exit from the competition.

Injuries proved costly for the R’s, whose plans were disrupted before kick-off as midfielder Sophie Fogarty sustained a torn hamstring in the warm-up.

Boss Martino Chevannes’ misery was compounded with two more enforced substitutions by half-time. Striker Sarah Lovett suffered a suspected broken ankle while a blow to the head ended goalkeeper Sophie Cheadle’s afternoon early through concussion.

Rangers were on the backfoot from the outset and Cheadle was helpless to Pompey’s opener as a long ball caught the R’s backline on their heels. McGee’s lob over the top released Wilson, who fired past the R’s number one with just eight minutes on the clock.

The hosts quickly doubled their advantage on 16 minutes, as Wilson profited from Cheadle’s weak punch to stab home a second.

A third wasn’t far away as Rangers were hit on the counter-attack after Lorna Gover’s misplaced pass was intercepted by Shelly Cox. Cox’s driving run and pull-back from the left paved the way for Wilson to complete her hat-trick.

Rangers battled bravely in the second period to restore some pride but couldn't force a consolation, instead gifting two further goals in the closing 16 minutes.

Wilson headed home Gemma Hillier’s cross before McGee added gloss to the scoreline late on, smashing in a 25-yard free-kick to seal victory.

QPR LFC: Cheadle (Marsh 46), Gover, Dempster, Bytyqi, Walker, Thomson, Staples, S. Fogarty (McConville 60), Petit, Lovett (Glynn 35), Popovich.
