Apathy has seemingly spread from the fans and in to the first team - who are displaying less fight than Gemma Collins in a kebab house. The players have seemingly forgotten that we aren't yet safe from relegation and don't look like picking up another point let alone 3. KR had little of note to say in his press conference. Same old rubbish - could copy and paste it from all other match threads. Personally I'm surprised he's seen the week out. Maybe apathy has set in to the SMT. There's that word again. Can't see us winning - Southend look like a side who know they have a job at hand. 1-3
I've just read KR's assessment of Southend. They are devastating in attack and strong in defense, and what a great job Phil Brown has done there. The players must be ****ting themselves before they even go out on Saturday. This game should be watched from behind the sofa, except that the fans ripped it to shreds
There would only be one result if I was with your avatar! Southend's 2000+ will roar them on to an easy victory.
I think so. Not going to lie - did zero research about it other than stumbling across kr's tweets (via the club) from yesterday.
I think so. Though only in as much as a lack of something can have a record level. Apathy is like 'darkness' - not the name of something real, rather a word to describe a lack of something else. Darkness is simply a relative lack of light, just as apathy is a relative lack of enthusiasm, energy, optimism, positivity, expectation of achievement or a worthwhile experience etc. Speaking for myself, the prospect of going to the Valley tomorrow inspires no enthusiasm, or optimism or expectation of achievement. I fully expect us to get our arses kicked by Southend United tomorrow - a team who play much better than we do, and have deservedly had a much better season than we have. Not so very long ago, Charlton V Southend would have been a very low key opening game in a League Cup campaign for us, or possibly a disappointing FA Cup 3rd round draw when we had been hoping for a glamour tie. Most Charlton fans would have fully expected a 3-0 minimum victory in second gear, and maybe a chance to see a few squad fringe players get a run out at the Valley, against such lesser opposition. Now Charlton are the lesser opposition, to be disrespected and dismissed by Southend fans, who probably see us as another 3 points on their way to the Play-offs and a chance to break into the Championship next season. We are the underdogs in our own two thirds empty stadium, watching another properly run team overtake us and leave us in their wake. Thanks Mr Duchatelet, for sucking the living heartbeat right out of our Club. So come on Karl Robinson and the first team players, prove that you can be fit to wear the shirt sometimes, and play well enough tomorrow to beat this team who have put us to shame this season with their ability to succeed. Win this game, which back in August so many Addicks fans were hoping would be another home banker on our road to promotion. To restore just a little bit of the pride we have lost for a few hours, and to scrape us to 50 points. Or just lose again, like we all expect you to. Yes, I think you could say pre-match apathy is at record levels.
I'll be at the Rye in peckham watching the national, whilst soaking in the sun. I used to miss charlton on a Saturday - but genuinely looking forward to a day where they'll be at the back of my mind. Good luck to those going. On paper this has the potential to be a miserable day.
