King hell, 31% of voters felt that 2010/11 was a better season than 75/76. Must be the youngsters voting. They'll be disappointed as all the other choices are (rightly) ancient history. Francis Bowles Venables & 75/76 for me, which dates me pretty precisely.
I'm pretty much with stan on this, although in a way i understand why some chose 2010/11 as we did actually get our hands on that wonderful league trophy (so much classier than that piece of bling that is the EPL cup) I suppose that 66/67 has to rank along side 75/76 as our greatest season as we won 2 trophies and it was the year that put QPR on the map......Mike Keen was a super captain and is still the only R's skipper to have held up a trophy at Wembley......Off course that side also contained Rodney and was managed by gentleman Alec Stock....... It gets tough as you get older...... Edit....Actually voted for Dave Sexton as manager simply because of the total football played in the 75/6 season that had been 3 or 4 years in the making....
That was my first season, watching them as a six year old was mesmerising! Can't argue with any of your selections SB, will be voting the same when I get home, although I do have a soft spot for AM as captain!
Our 75/76 team was sublime and a great side beyond doubt but my votes go to the 66/67 side as it was they who put the club on the map and actually won a trophy at Wembley. The first Third Division side to win a major trophy and doing it from 2-0 down. Rodney scored 44 goals that season and dear old Alec Stock, without him we'd be a Brentford or Orient now... Mike Keen Rodney Marsh 66/67 Alec Stock
Sadly I can't compare as I didn't see this vintage. I'm sure they deserve the plaudits Sooper. I've always had a soft spot for Leyton Orient, strange seeing them on top of League One...
Venables, Bowles, 75/6, Sexton None of the captains offered in the survey came close to Venables in my book. I can't recall ever seeing Marsh play for us, so had to go for Stan. No doubt on the best ever team in my mind, nor the manager. Best chairman might have been interesting, or better still worst chairman!
Francis Bowles Sexton For the reasons mentioned above - this was the era that I really connected with QPR for the first time. Starting from when I was six, I had a steady five years culminating in the end of the 75-76 season where we just got better and better. Although.... for my best year, I've gone for 82/3. During this period, I was at pretty much every game, and the joy of being there, during that incredible Cup run and the final, then the promotion the next year, was far more personal to me because I lived it with the rest of the crowd. When I was younger, the exploits of the 70s team were great, but this was real...
Mike Keen picked up the only Major Trophy in our History, Rodney 44 goals in a season, Alec Stock is just a true Legend, The 75-76 team was better in terms of the style of football and finishing so close to Liverpool for the title, but i just favour the 66/67 team. Mike Keen Rodney Marsh 66/67 Alec Stock
Ditto selection for me - that 1966/67 season was my first experience following the R's with my Dad, culminating in that tremendous underdog League Cup victory against WBA at Wembley, and promotion to Division Two as champions. Alec Stock, in addition to being an excellent football manager, was a true gentleman. Rodney Marsh mesmerized me with his play, tricks and goals. Mike Keen's captaincy gelled that squad together. I'm from the same generation - instead of Kilburn I could be Peter1953QPR.
Agree with this totally. This was the team that set us on our way and made people take notice of 'little old Queens Park Rangers'. Roller was wondering about Chairman. Must be Jim Gregory. if people think LR is a dump now they were'nt around before JG started the re-build. David Bulstrode may have gone on to great things but we will never know. Hopefully in a few years time the answer to Rollers question will be Tony Fernandes.
