MICHEL Vorm plans to thank Dorus de Vries for opening a door to the Premier League when the pair meet on Saturday. Vorm will come face to face with his predecessor when Swansea City go to Wolves, where de Vries is currently back-up goalkeeper to Wayne Hennessey. Surprisingly, it will be the first time former Utrecht player Vorm has met his fellow Dutchman. Vorm moved to Swansea in the summer after de Vries turned down a new Liberty contract in favour of a free transfer switch to Molineux. And the 27-year-old is grateful de Vries made that decision because it gave him a chance in the English game. âIâve followed his career because he was a Dutch keeper who went to the English leagues, but I donât know him at all,â Vorm revealed. âIâll speak to him, because him leaving gave me a big opportunity to come and play here so I should thank him. âHennessey is the No. 1 and a good goalkeeper, but letâs hope for the Dutch side, Dorus will play in the Premier League.â Vorm added caps eight and nine to his collection over the recent international break as he played for Holland in victory over Moldova and defeat to Sweden. He will be hoping to keep that place heading into next summerâs European Championships in Poland and Ukraine. But the £1.5 million signing faces stiff competition from Roma stopper Maarten Stekelenburg, who was injured for his countryâs last two matches. Stekelenburg remains first choice, though Vorm believes playing in the Premier League is strengthening his case for selection. âStekelenburg is No. 1 but it is easier to go from Swansea to Holland than it is from Utrecht,â he said. âItâs good for me to be at this level which is great, but I know Stekelenburg is the No. 1 so Iâll have to see what happens. âOf course itâs my ambition to be No. 1, but you also must be realistic and heâs done very well for the national side over a period. âThe main thing for me is to play well for Swansea and see what happens.â Swanseaâs most pressing concern right now is their away form. Defeats at Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea had been expected, but last weekendâs 3-1 defeat at Norwich was harder to stomach. Swansea have conceded 12 goals in the four travelling league matches and scored just two. âItâs strange, for the whole team, not just me,â Vorm added. âWe havenât conceded one goal at home, but when you let in 12 away thereâs something wrong. âItâs a big chance against Wolves. The main thing is to take a good lesson from last Saturday. âThis week there is no international break and no excuse.â
The Dutch have three superb keeper choices in Stekelenberg, Vorm and Krul (who has been brilliant for the Toon recently). Dorus who?
I can't believe Swansea City FC are currently in position of the Dutch keeper for their last 2 matches. Incredible.
