for us to settle into the prem he is holding the fort well, i hope our forward line clicks soon and find that higher gear we need to move up to at times .
Graham just couldn't keep up when we attacked with pace. He needs to stop dropping deep as when we break he is not supporting IMO but it wasn't just him, everytime Dyer was attacking to put a cross in Sinclair seemed to be in no man's land. Think we just need to get that first goal to settle the team when we attack and the gear increase will follow
I,m not worried at the moment but we've lacked a cutting edge in the first two games and sometimes we also look dodgy at the back which needs to be addressed sooner rather than later,Can't afford in this league to fall behind to early.
We need to start Dobbie a little earlier I think. He finds the right positions and is gunning for the first goal. I also thought it odd the he took that corner. He should of been in the box.
Dobbie should have started. End of. BBC: "Wigan missed a penalty" Doesn't really do it justice does it? Well taken penalty. Fabulous, world class save.
Hi guys first posing since the 'old' 606 board (jakthelad), personally I feel at man city Allen instead of Dobbie, and today (at home) Dobbie instead of Routledge? surely 442 at home with a 'proper' 451 away. This would have maybe given us more possesion in mid. I dont see Dobbie as a midfielder, at home he is essential to winning us points..... Just a thought but interested if others agree or am I missing something?
I think Dobbie needs a second with the ball and he won't get that as a Striker in this league. In the hole he's able to see more potions and can drift into space as and where he sees fit (like he did down the right today). I'm not sure a traditional 442 will suit our play and there are more effective ways of getting bodies up top during attacks than playing two strikers - at least for us there is! Possession isn't our problem, it's finishing chances and pacing ourselves until fitness levels improve. If we were fit already it could well have been only 2-0 against Man City and our first win here. It's all about progression, learning from our mistakes, improving with every game and finishing outside that bottom three come the final whistle in our last game. Vorm will win us points (first one today imo) and makes us a tough prospect to face. We need to take our chances and have a bit more speed of thought sometimes, then we'll be fine. Early days yet
Chris totally agree with you. We are just not suited to 442. I was wondering how long before someone brought this up. 451 or 433 got us up and is the way we have played for the last 4 seasons. lets get rid of something that has got us twice promoted and go back to a system that doesnt suit us. it is down to the midfield and wingers to get in to the box as well. Giving us more options. The goals will come just keep the faith. but as for Vorm the guy is class.
A good point was made by Capello on Sky sprots on sunday. He stated that teams should not be obsessed with what formation they play ( 442 or 451 or 433). The formation does not matter if when you have the ball the whole team supports the attack , and when you lose posession , the whole team defends with the priority to regain posession. Barcelona do not work to any formation , player positions are interchangeable. Freeze frame any barcelona game at any point of any match and you can be guaranteed the player positions is no-where near the kick off formation.
Interesting point but what I counter with is this: Whenever I see Barca (about 3-4 times a year via TV) they always have a player on the left wing, always a player on the right wing, always a back four with someone in front, one striker and two playmakers behind him. Perhaps Messi drifts to another position but then Villa would go wide to cove and it snowballs... doesn't make it anything other than a 433/451 formation even if the players are not in normal positions - same with us when the wingers swap and maybe Dobbie goes up top, Graham to the right wing, Dyer on the left and Sinclair in the hole. It's the same formation just with freedom and flexibility.
