I posted on the spurs board yesterday with a totally reasonable question regarding our upcoming fixture and it descended into a farce fairly quickly. they were questioning why a few of our ranks were on their board and we basically explained that we often go onto the board of our next opponents for a bit of banter and they certainly seemed miffed about us trespassing onto their board.

a number of them were a bit shirty and arrogant but some were sound. are we one of the more 'sociable' boards on here as i thought it was a fairly normal for fans to go to the rival teams board for a bit of crack but they didn't seem to like it. after basically being ran out of town i couldn't be arsed to get into it again with them but i noticed that there aren't many who visit here for a bit crack other than the green army and the few rational mackems that don't mind a bit banter.

is it only WUMS that visit other boards these days?

Its so true. Loads of times I've commented on other boards and you're immediately met with suspicion. I've not bothered now, I comment the odd time on the mackem board but if the likes of bart etc are on the thread you'll get "**** off we're not interest in what a mag thinks"

well i know they enjoy a reputation of being arrogant tossers mainly but i don't want to tar them all. but i could add a post to a totally normal thread totally on topic just throwing an opinion out there and it suddenly becomes a witch hunt.

they need to relax. we're all footy fans.

I had to laugh a the thread that one of them started, complaining about the "influx" of geordies. He then went on to say that TWO Newcastle fans had been on their board in the last couple of days!!!

Spurs and their fans are just an arrogant bunch. did well for a bit and thought they were going to break into the top 4 bracket. they have a mentality that they are one of the top teams around.. even in europe, just because they had a few good games.. look at bale.. best player in the world after inter failed to stop the same run/shot on goal on god knows how many ****ing occasions. whats he doing now.. taking a break from beating the world.

i hate spurs and i hate redknapp and his dodgy brown paper bags, van der vaart heading to bayern for 18mill then falls through and all of a sudden spurs get him for 8 mill and nobody bats an eyelid. haha come off it 10 million less... really?

It varies by club I think. Those (like Spurs) who have over inflated expectations can be very sticky, and as you say, discussion soon degenerates to ud slinging. Others, like my team Fulham are always happy to have fair comment and even a bit of teasing. Most of the QPR fans that visited our board recently were totally sound.

Trouble is you can only have "friendly rivalry" with those who are your equals.... sad... but they may get good enough one day ;)
Seriously tho, from midlands down people get gradually more insular and defensive and have the attitude that if youre not one of "us" you must be one of "them" and therefore the enemy. Sad.

The ones that seem most bitter are the ones that have come close but never quite got there. Or the ones that were successful over 10 yrs ago spurs, villa, forrest.

we came close and played in the champions league and were regular uefa cup material. i personally don't think we throw that about too much. we've been down and came back and are building to get back to where we were fighting for the euro places in the next few years. maybe its because we had the entertainers and the robson era that sort of won over plenty neutrals?

On old 606 I always liked to suss out the teams we were about to play by visiting their board, I would look again after we'd played as I like to see other supporters perception of the game. I see no harm in this, though some boards are somewhat territorial, they see your being on their board as an intrusion, a bit silly really, so many clubs have their own sites now with no visitors from other teams allowed.

its a bit pathetic really. seeing as they could pick up an red top tabloid and read all about their teams whenever they like. all seems a bit precious.

This. I use to do the same on 606. As you say, the boards were less territorial and you could have a better discussion.

that was what i said to them basically. a game of footy requires 2 teams etc. is it that unsual for the opponent to have a bit crack with the opposing fans? if we were in town on a match day and away fans were in the same pub theres usually a bit of light hearted banter unless people are total d*ckheads. i don't see it as being any different. maybe its because its easier to call someone as a faceless nameless hero online instead of sayiong it face to face.

It's one thing I miss about cross board banter, the incident last week on the Sunderland board reminded me of that.
I've been banned before I even do anything wrong... :emoticon-0106-cryin
