little word that does a lot of damage

I use multiple computers, not networked thank goodness, and in one of the links that I followed off of here Sunday/ Monday, I picked up a virus that was malware and rated dangerously high it took hours to eliminate. It was a recycling one using hidden files and embedded files so that it was always one action ahead of the deletion tool. Please all be careful when down loading links from here or other sites.

    Anyway back on line now.............

....What did one computer say to the other?

I very rarely down load from links on here only done it a handful of times in 4 years, I did about 5 on Sunday /Monday and it was the only thing I did after downloading a windows update after early Sunday Evening.
I endeavoured to download another Tuesday am and it said windows download and my virus killer programme update were viruses,..stopped downloading anything designed to kill it, but we did, well my mate did....eventually

Yeah that was ages ago. All it was, was a face that jumped out when opened. Nobody else got a "virus" bar him.

erm...you have not really answered the question, what threads were these links on?

You say you have only done a handful in four years but then do a handful within 24hrs...so i assume you would remember where from. Hence then I can remove them.

Sounds like an update issue to me, unless you can be more precise. I assume your mate checked for extensions. If there was malware on here, google would ban the site.

I just let curiosity get the better of me when going through the last 30 pages looking for an item I can remember evening post a couple of times and there was about 3 other links, however within these links there was maybe another link or 2, which I looked at so cant help other than that

edit PS the programme was embedded in my GOOGLE folder

I suppose the simple rule is don't click on links unless you know they are from a trusted source, simple principle for any site. Also if you have an anti virus it should be kicking you straight back out of anything dodgy...hence then you report it and i get it removed. If it was placed maliciously then the user gets banned.

Sounds odd that your mate resolved something but you don't know what it was, it would have told him in the directory surely if removed properly.

    Thanks anyway <ok.

Sometime, I believe over the weekend, my Kaspersky warned of a potential threat but it did not prove to be a problem beyond the warning thank goodness. I am very wary about opening links and my son's computer warns him the not606 is a vulnerable site but I am not sure if he even has any protection. Be careful I suppose is the buzzword.

This is why I like using the IPad, if it notices a virus it just crashes, to stop it getting anything hence you don't get antivirus for them, I hope that's true.
