With the atmosphere so poor at St Marys these days and a distinct lack of player songs, I have thought up a song for our now centre back favourite Virgil Van Dijk. I'm hoping this can get going at home to Bournemouth especially, helping to create a huge atmosphere against our 'rivals.' Its to the tune of the RIckie Lambert song. Please share it and join in next sunday when it get started. He stands at over 6ft 3 Van Dijk, Van Dijk, We bought him from the Scottish League, Van Dijk, Van Dijk, He is solid at the back, He turns defence into attack, Virgil Van Dijk Southampton's centre back, la la la la la la la la la la la
First two lines are good, but then it gets a bit boring. Here's my version (to the same tune)... "His hair is like a pineapple, Van Dijk, Van Dijk, We bought him from the SPL, Van Dijk, Van Dijk, Look in his pocket, you will see, Giroud, Costa and Rooney Virgil Van Dijk, his hair is pineapple-y" I should write all our songs.
Yours is funny but would never get going and we need a song that will get going and will get the ground rocking
Sorry just can't imagine the whole ground singing pineapple esque. Think we should stick with my version much simpler and clearer, easy for people to latch on to! Please share and get the word out!
I have lost hope of Saints fans ever grasping a song longer than two lines....how that ruddy Pompey song ever got going, I will never know.
Do we really have to recycle such a recent song already? Can't we come up with something new or recycle one of the old ones? Dutch van Dyke-ing, lord, Southampton Star Dutch van Dyke-ing, lord, Southampton Star Dutch van Dyke-ing, lord, Southampton Star Oh Lord, Southampton Star Or Virgil van Dyke, our van Dyke, All is calm, all is bright Rounds fat Rooney with grace and with style Holy Dutchman, tender and mild Defend in heavenly peace, Defend in heavenly peace. Or All things Dyke and beautiful, All defenders great and small, All freekicks wise and wonderful: Our van Dyke takes them all.
I shall restate my idea, first posted on the Saint Virgil! thread. It's based on "Bike", a Syd Barrett composition from the early Pink Floyd: We've got Van Dijk, You can watch him if you like, He's quite tall, got lots of hair, And does things that make him look good. You'd buy him off us if you could but we just signed him. He's the kind of player that fits in with our world, We'll give him anything, everything if he stays here.
Oh Chilcs, that's a good effort, but we all know my "original" bike song inspired it: "He's got a new bike He's got a new bike Virgil van Dijk, He's got a new bike" I think I win. LTL - I can write something for Fable too if you like.... "She's got a new song She's got a new song ..." Anyone seen a coat lying around?
I've got it! We'll all make up our van Dyke song and sing them all at the same time! What will result will be the world's greatest harmony and the world's best football song. However, it will only work once and every subsequent attempt will be a disappointment.
I'm still reeling from... With the atmosphere so poor at St Marys these days..! So all that noise I hear is my tinnitus.?
Or we could sing the same song as a round...Northam could start, then one line later the Kingsland join in, then so on. We are all so musical....what could possibly go wrong.
I thought that was what happens anyway! (Apart from the Chapel of course). One day the Chapel Stand will suddenly burst into song with a brand-new, perfectly harmonised little number and the players will be completely distracted.
