I was there. Just behind the goal where Uganda scored (can't see clearly enough to spot myself though). I remember that goal possibly getting the biggest cheer.

I wonder what the attendance was.

According to The Official History of WWFC the attendance was 7,500, which seems about right. I was also at the match, on the rail just in front of the tea kiosk. They had some incredible crowds in those days. Later in the season there were over 15,000 for the Amateur Cup tie against Ilford.

You don't get crowds like that in the Isthmian League nowadays. In League 2 that would be fantastic.

Those were the days when the town was behind their football team instead of latching on to some Premiership club, as most kids seem to do today (can't be seen to supporting a league 2 side) - very sad.

I wonder if the fact Loakes Park was within easy walking distance of the town centre helped. I think the admission fee was a shilling (5p). How much is that in today's terms? Well a bag of chips was 3 old pence. I don't know how much a bag of chips is now but, if we say £1.50, that would be 360 time the cost then. That would make the admission fee now around £18. I don't know if salaries (or more importantly, disposable income) have gone up in the same proportion.

Is that true - that kids can't be seen to support a League Two side? There seems to be a good number of kids in the crowd whenever I go but obviously nowhere near as many as in the 50's or early 60's? I think that there are too many other things for kids to do, which these days they find more interesting? The likes of Worley and Bates were Gods and I'm not sure if that applies to any if the present side - although Ainsworth is well on his way to achieving that status.
