3 year deal and apparently chasing Sigurdsson. Any reason AVB will make less of a dog's dinner here than at Chelsea? If I was a Spurs fan, I wouldn't be celebrating right now
I wonder if he will turn up at the Old Bailey and give John Terry his total backing now that he is the manager of Chesea's biggest rivals? All that squatting on the edge of the pitch and stroking his chin was ridiculous, made him look like a nonce in the park. His over confidence quickly turned into paranoia and I got the feeling he didn't care for the press when they got on his back. Still, no such thing as loyalty in the game so Levy will get shot of AVB if he doesn't cut it at Spuds.
Levy must be the only person who thinks this will improve things for Spurs. With King heading for retirement and Modric chasing the money they may struggle to make the Top Six...
Why would any club in its riht mind get rid of one of the BEST managers in the world.....and replace him with AVB...a manager that gave Chelsea one of their worst runs in many years! Crazy!
Results are all that matters in football....Yes Harry's head was turned when his country came calling....but I think replacing a successful manager with a failed one will be detrimental to the Spuds.
I dont particularly like AVB but 'Arry' is the most overrated manager in the game. It's only because he's a likeable geezer and he's spent years getting the press onside that he's got such a reputation. No logic behind saying Harry is a beter manager than AVB who at 34 has already achieved more in the game then 65 year old Harry. AVB notable achievements: Took Academia a minnow in Portugese league who were desrvedly bottom to 11th and a cup semi. 1st year in charge at Porto won the treble including Uefa cup and went entire season unbeaten (only second time this has ever been done) - Given Chelsea job misguidely tried to take on big players and deservedly sacked. Harry notable achievements: Err.... won the FA with a Portsmouth team who are now paying the price for that overspending. Oh and he gets lots of credit for taking over an underachieving Spurs team from bottom after just 8 games to 8th. This team included Robbie Keane, Gareth Bale, Jermaine Defoe, Jenas, Darren Bent, Palyuchenko, Lennon, Corluka etc. Wow what an acheivement!!
I may be in the minority here but i actually thought AVB going to chelsea was a good move and given time he probably would have provided a basis for the next 5 years or so, but unfortunately for him Abramovic doesn't do long term he is the "here and now" type and he paid the price. It depends on how AVB views the spurs job, does he try to bring them on over a few years and get them to challenge City & Utd long term in which case they may have to take a backward step first or has Levy insisted on 3rd place or better in year 1 in which case he is on a hiding to nothing!
100% agree. Though he did get Bournemouth promoted too, sometime in the 80s. Also spent £78m more than he earned in transfers over the last 3 seasons at Spuds. Predict he will sit in his lovely home hoping Adkins will get the sack from Saints, so he doesn't have a long drive to work.
I thought he was doing a good job at Chelscum until Di Matteo stepped up and swept all before him. Honestly, I think Spurs could have done better.
Very harsh summary there Damage. Okay he spent a lot of money but tell me of one other (available) Manager who could've taken over Spurs rock bottom the League and got them two top four finishes along with scalping the likes of AC Milan in the process? Of course the proof will be in the eating of the pudding. Will AVB replicate that success? I doubt it.
You are clearly missing his achievements with the youth set up wherever he has gone. He is able to spot potential and has the coaching skills and organization to make the best of it. It's true that most big clubs want instant success these days but if you are looking to build for the longer term then he he best there is.
Not contradicting you Aaaagh, but can you give us some examples of youth that Arry has brought through? West Ham aside, I'm struggling.
