Just heard on the telly that 500 jobs are to go at Villa. Sympathy for those involved, no matter what club they work for, but how the hell does a club employ that many people? Even we look lean and mean compared to that.
That's a ridiculous amount of personnel.......how many retained their jobs? Beggars belief........tea ladies? Boot cleaners? Shredding machine operators?
I had to check that as I was sure they meant 50....500? No wonder they're in the shi**e. My local Aldi appears to run perfectly well with 2.
I thought i just heard on SSN that they are closing one stand for next season to save costs? That cannot be true surely?
****ing hell, they have 1600 full time, part time and match day staff. And only 67 of them are players, including U21s and Academy, but not the Ladies team.
This is a real kick in the teeth for the poor unfortunates who have probably supported the Villa for many years. It doesn't help when you get ****ers earning a fortune on the pitch who couldn't give a ****. Step forward Joleon Lescott who not only tweeted a picture of his new £125,000 sports car after a 6-0 defeat at Liverpool, but also said on Saturday after relegation was confirmed that ''It was a weight off the shoulders.'' Stan Collymore and Paul McGrath gave it to him ... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...legend-Paul-McGrath-following-relegation.html http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/joleon-lescott-tweets-picture-supercar-7370598 And then we have Gabby Agbonlahor who Villa have suspended after being pictured on a night out with laughing gas canisters on the day Villa were relegated. It's his second suspension this season after coach Eric Black decided he had let himself go and became too overweight to play. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/aston-villa-considering-sacking-disgraced-7788560
Fair play to Paul McGrath for giving Lescott a piece of his mind. I thought Villa were the worst side we faced last year so I am not a bit surprised they find themselves where they are now. We as a club know exactly how their fans are feeling. We have been there. Some would say we are still there.
For the last two seasons we were in the Premiership, I genuinely felt we were not actually the worst team. Yes I know the table doesn't lie....but both seasons Villa ere worse than us and they got away with it twice... I suspect they will try and buy their way out of it with big names...and I wonder if they have relegation clauses in their pay structures. I suspect not....too bigger club.
I somehow doubt that they will buy their way back, it seems more like a closing down scenario. They only have 30 or so players under contract in their EDS and Academy squads, no depth or pipeline. Most of the 34 first team squad are virtually worthless. They have no club senior management and a distant owner who will never turn up there and take an interest because of the abuse he will get. Rudderless. Best hope is that somebody buys them, and the fact that even in the PL they can't fill their (big but horrible) stadium is not a great advert. Beth I think time has clouded your view on exactly how crap we were in our last two relegation seasons. The first, under Redknapp, gave me the worst feelings I have ever had following QPR, a true disgrace with everyone to blame, spineless, self serving and unprofessional. The second was not quite as bad, but some games were in the same class. Anyway, the 500 who will be unemployed (hopefully briefly) are more important than the players or owners of Villa, I hope they will be looked after fairly.
Not saying we were any good Stan, just that (especially the last season, when they got to Wembley under Sherwood)..the two times we played them...we played them off the park. We did that to no other team...twice (yes I know we lost in Villa...but that was so unfair too)
Saw a picture of Agbonlahor the other day taken during a match, think Villa had just conceded, and his eyes were glazed, looked as if he was stoned....... Another overpaid, overweight wasted talent.....
The Villa wheels are definitely wobbling or perhaps even coming off. They will be a scalp everyone wants next year and I can see them dropping further.
Hey Beth, funny you should say that. I spent some of this morning archiving MOTDs from our 14/15 PL season. Yes, I enjoy torturing myself! Looking at that team, some of the goals we scored and some of the good moves, how on earth did Harry manage to screw it up?! Somewhere in the post relegation analysis, it was reported that Harry said something along the lines of, 'I knew we would get relegated when I looked at the squad'. Neat excuse to cover up mismanagement. I really hope we get another crack at the PL in the not too distant future.
