Delighted with a point in a game we deserved nothing from. Once Liverpool had got to grips with losing Lucas they dominated the midfield with Allen in particular outstanding and Stirling a menace on the flank. If Mancini is to play with 3 at the back then we need to be working a damned sight harder in front of them and selecting the liability Balotelli up front with the workshy Kolorov always meant that was going to be a struggle.Gerrard had all the time in the world in the centre of the park to spray as he pleased with Shelvey doing the donkey work around him to create the space that the ineffective Milner and Kolorov allowed with alarming regularity. Considering the dominance though I didn't think hart had anymore than Reina to deal with and the fact that Liverpool never really looked like finishing us off should be of concern as that was liverpools Achilles heel of Dalglish' tenure. 2 things about the Anfield crowd, firstly gave joe hart a tremendous ovation when he took his place in the goals at the Kop was commendable but chanting Dalglish' name on the new managers first home game certainly wasn't Possibly the sign of a good side is picking up points when not playing well is a nice new trait to have albeit I thought Liverpool didn't allow us to play. Will Liverpool kick on from this,in a year where with arsenal a shadow of the side of last year and top 4 is eminently achievable,or will they revert to type against the lesser sides and fall away again? Evidence of today is they certainly have enough to be thereabouts at the business end
Unfortunately it could be more of the same for Liverpool. In 90% of the "big games" last year we looked pretty good and, at times dominant but come away with a point or less. After 10 games is when it'll tell.
Nice to have a balance opinion from another team. We played well and we have something to build on. Last season Lucas being injured was a disaster, we now have a player that can play with or instead of him in Joe Allen.
As like most season we need to judge after 10 games when we have played a mix of teams home and away. If we play like that everyweek we'll be alright but as pointed out, last year we were fine against the better teams and struggled with the rest. That's why I wasn't too fussed with out start as we do well against City, United, Arsenal anyway. Games against, Reading, Stoke & Norwich in the next 6 weeks to go with Arsenal & United so we can start to get an idea of how the season will pan out after that.
Mate a really balanced and well thought out post. Cannot argue with anything you said, pretty sure you also came on here last season after a City-Liverpool match and that post was also really well balanced, if so you are a credit to your club! It's nice and sadly too rare that posters cannot leave bias and insecurities aside. I include us Liverpool fans in this too, infact lately this board as been rife, anyway thanks for the sincerity and I truly wish you well for the season ahead, hope you finish above Utd no matter what else happens!
Yup good post. The only thing I disagree with is the dalglish chants. This was not meant to undermine Rogers at all - Kenny is so much more than an ex LFC mgr to the people of Liverpool.
I don't agree with the chanting. If Kenny was there or it was his birthday or something then fair enough, but randomly chanting his name DOES undermine the manager whether we like it or not.
I can honestly say I didn't hear any Dalglish chants mate. Wasn't coming from The Kop (or at least I didn't hear them). Great post though and a really enjoyable game. Atmosphere was much better than a normal weekend league game. The general consensus before the game was that we at least wanted to see us have a go at City and give them a hard time of it and we certainly did that. Was a shame to throw away the points with daft mistakes but enough positives to make up for that overall. Credit must go to BR for having the balls to start Sterling and the lad certainly repaid the faith shown in him with a really good display not just with the ball but also in terms of workrate and positioning off the ball too. It was a very mature performance from one so young. Joe Allen also looked quite at home which is a good sign, Borini also seemed to be getting involved a lot more and I was glad to see Johnson yet again put in a good shift out of position. It was far from a perfect performance and we still need to work on not giving the ball away (obviously) and we have to start getting more men in the box a lot quicker at times. After the game I think there was obviously a sense of frustration about gifting silly goals but also a definite feeling of optimism for the future. Now what BR has to do is get us performing like that week in week out and not just against the better teams.
Why is it Citeh fans seem alright and talk sense, while Yernited fans are TOTAL T*ATS and talk talk out there f**kin ar*e!!!!!!!!!! Ive always wondered
^^^ A new manager does not want to hear the name of the ex-manager being sung out in the terraces. We really want to give all our support to BR and make sure he feels welcome. He should be a fresh start for us. Singing Dalglish's name undermine the new manager and seems to imply doubt about the future. We have to learn the lessons of the past few seasons. Of course we do not want to brush aside the achievements of the past but on the other hand there is enough pressure on BR to replace a legend without being reminded of it by the KOP. Just hoping it does not happen again. Dalglish is the past. BR is our present and future.
Did "we" sing Dalglishs name? As I said I didn't hear it and I was on The Kop. Maybe I missed it but I heard everything else
Yeah funny how the lads who actually come from Manchester don't get involved in the vitriolic **** that the Surrey boys spew out isn't it
It was a well balanced opening post. City are delighted with a point, even though they didn't really deserve one. I do agree we do need to see more of the same, without the mistakes of course.
I was thinking more about the surrey boys singing Hillsborough songs at thje Everton game the other night and at Anfield every season mate. Didn't hear any of that yesterday...but I suppose I could have missed it like I obviously missed these mysterious chants of Dalglish
