A coach full of proud saints players should have headed back to the south coast tonight after a bright vibrant well thought out counter attacking performance gave City as hard a game at the Etihad as they've had in an awful long time.
Backed by a noisy passionate travelling support they gave a performance that suggests Saints will survive and flourish in the premier league rather than being the relegation fodder that the media like to portray promoted teams as.
Hopefully the media won't put the result down as city having an off day but rather give Southampton the credit they deserve for not allowing us to play our usual game at home and meekly surrendering like the majority of visitors to the Etihad last year who were already beaten coming out of the tunnel
Good luck for the season, look forward to my visit to st Mary's in February

No doubt, like Mancini, they will put it down to City being underpar rather than our impressive performance

If you'd watched any Prem football last season, you could tell City were underpar. They should have put 6 past you. Although you did deliver a battling display. all in vain though :)

Booed at first because we thought he was faking(specially after he walked off the pitch). Then when he got stretchered off most of us clapped.

And why did you think he was faking it? was because he was a foreigner? or is it what you have come to expect of players in the premier league?.....or another reason?

Because you never know in the Premier League if a player is making a meal of it or if it's serious, unfortunately things are like that.

I think it's probably because it was a fair tackle that didn't look at all bad so people thought he was milking it. Pretty simple explanation.

That says a lot about the premier league if thats how fans feel, especially top players as I expect if a saints player went down no one would think he was faking it (even if he was).

I said why, he laid down for a while then suddenly got up and walked off. Alot of footballers dive/ fake so i'm afraid it tarnishes every footballer.(I am not saying every player is a cheat).

That's what the top players do,they roll around faking an injury, then when there team is attacking they get straight up and play as if nothing has happened.

Probably a combination of the latter and the fact that (on television, at least) it looked like a totally harmless challenge in live action; Aguero doesn't have a reputation as a diver, but at first blush there appeared to be minimal contact. Wasn't until I saw the replay that it became apparent that his studs had caught in the turf and his knee got torqued badly.

Paulpowersleftfoot thanks for the kind comments . Went to the game today after a 4 hour car journey and sensed a very uneasy atmosphere amongst the sfc fans outside the stadium waiting to get in. Once inside we grabbed a quick beer and had a look arou nd the impressive etihad. We took our seats with 30 mins to KO and i must admit was stunned when the teamsheet was read out with lambert as sub. We discussed it and thought ok so were goin 4-3-3 and bring rickie on as impact sub possibly in the second half. Bit shocked at the gameplan but in adkins we trust. What i hadnt expected was the team effort from saints, a renewed vigour and a fearless confidence. The game for me was one of the best away matches i have been to, my doubts over fonte were swiftly brushed aside and there was a chance we could nick a draw all beit a slim one.

Adkins for me definately got his tactics spot on and the boys did us proud. Its strange comming out of a game we lost but some how feeling we were victorious in team spirit and with the guts to go at man city the way we did.

I managed to speak to a few mancs on the way back to the car and all were full of praise saying how they had a few nervous moments and were impressed we brought the game to them. So once again i say thx for the comments and to the media and pundits who were saying we were favourites to be relegated and nige first to be sacked i say .... we are southampton.... we are back in the prem.... and we are fearless :)
