Could be worth a punt, apparently has done a good job in his role at Man City. Plus can see him getting the best out of Tiote and Sissoko.

His U21 side have been very impressive and he'll certainly have a load of high flying contacts in the game. At least its looking like Carver & Brolly Wally are not being shoed in.

He's certainly unproven but I like that the club are thinking outside the box. I'm not someone that is anti McClaren either.

If it was a choice between the two I'd go for Vieira, purely because with McClaren we already know what to expect.

    Article says
Agree with this sentiment. I get the feeling that with Toon fans - I'm talking the unwashed, rather than the crowd here - the excitement of the unknown is being considered.

By the way, I heard a rumour that the third name on the shortlist is......David Ginola.

They looked average the two times I saw them play this season.

Personally I think this is potentially a good shout. if it turns out true I'd be happy. would never have seen it coming. Vieira was a totally boss player.

I don't think it would be very difficult to do well with Man City's reserves to be fair. <laugh>

This is what we need. When a player is undecided about coming to the club is he going to want to play for Patrick viera or a guy who shined sir bobby's shoes? Regardless were **** from top to bottom. I hope he comes in ready to work and doesn't leave us for a bigger club in 18 months like most of our players.

A reputable source of mine has just text me to say that Viera will become our new manager and is bringing Popeye Doyle as his second in command.

That should get a tune out of the French lads.

Sky have him favourite now. 8/11. I personally would like this idea. He would clearly represent something different to Steve Mclaren. He would have good connections and would potentially have connections with some of Man Citys younger stars so might be a good thing in terms of loaning players etc.

Another thing is he aint gonna leave Man City unless he has agreements in terms of player purchases etc as it is his reputation on the line if things go tits up. If he wants into management mainstream then this would be his first chance. **** it up and hes never gonna get another chance again so I think he would have certain demands in terms of player recruitment.

It would represent something fresh for me aswell.

BUT:::: I said the same thing when we got Ruud!

Quite excited by this. He's a born leader of men. Keegan had no experience when he came here, did us no harm. <ok>

Its a big gamble but so were Monk and Martinez.
He won't stand for slackers and could bring in some decent names.
He could also help turn Sissoko into the new Viera.
