Not sure if anyone has seen this before, but really urge you to take 13 minutes out of your day to watch this. Could've tagged it into the Europa thread but wanted to give it some coverage. Also, would be interesting to hear what people think about this kind of thing? DTLW
Excellent video (and very well produced). I think we're also doing plenty of this. I suspect it's been derailed a tad by the arrival of Ron when we bought players he knew from various clubs, but in general we do have a habit of signing players where the first reaction of most fans is "who?" I think that this is exactly how we're spotting targets. It's almost certainly the way the back box works and is used. Put it this way, it's the way I would use it and I'm no kind of expert. We also have plenty of people giving us specialist coaching, down to the vision consultant we pay to train the team in how to look round the pitch in a systematic way. I won't bang on about our buy when undervalued, sell when overvalued philosophy as I've done that before, but I suspect Brentford are doing something similar. One of the things I liked about the film is that it highlighted that it's unfashionable teams that follow these odd philosphies because they can't just throw money at problems (Liverpool's model is exceptionally good at coming up with this solution). It's been known for some time that small businesses are generally more innovative than big ones for the same reason. The film's good enough that I've just invested a few quid in Brendford for promotion. Hopefully their odds exceed the percentage chance they have of promotion. Vin
Interesting watch. Funnily enough I was talking about Brentford to an ex-Brentford employee this weekend. I mentioned the recent success and he pointed out one interesting stat: they don't seem to bring any players through their system. I don't not what this means, but made me wonder if it is possible to integrate the two approaches for a sustainable plan. I wonder what % of the whole story the number analytics makes up? It's very good for identifying a low cost player who is good, but then he needs to fit the system. How do they use analytics for coaching and playing? Thursday will be interesting.
