I think AW of old had more dignity, and he would have walked. Unfortunately, I cannot see him walking in May, his contract at the Emirates may well be his last managerial position and I suspect his vanity may well spur him to see it till the end of his contract. I think his time has well and truly come and gone, he is no longer dynamic, he is a dinosaur, a relic who is really out of touch with what it takes to actually win major honours. However in his ivory tower, he firmly believes 99.9999% of fans are still behind him.....
The sound on that video is terrible. Other than that there's isn't really much in there by way of convincing debate or new ideas. I don't think Wenger will walk in May either.
He won't go, he will see out his contract. There is no pressure on him from the top and he doesn't feel the need to leave either. He still wants to win the highest honours his way, unfortunately for him, his way is no longer the way to do it.
It's tricky - Wenger can clearly give us a high level of consistency and is always fantastic when it comes to bringing through young players. But what is clear is that he is now unable to prepare the team for a big match. We consistently put in terrible performances under pressure. This is a big deal I can't see us getting anywhere in the knockout stages of the champions league for this reason and in the league we can only hope to rack up points against the lesser sides. It's a depressing state of affairs. What's more Ozil, Sanchez, Carzorla, Podolski, Mertesacker have all shown themselves to have the right mentality outside of Arsenal. Our lack of fight clearly comes from the manager. He doesn't know how to motivate or inspire confidence.. Perhaps it's time we searched for someone who can.
It is not really our job to offer names as regards who could possibly replace AW. Whilst I am grateful for all AW has done, we have to start preparing ourselves for the inevitable. I hope the club has began the task of planning for life after AW and have all the contingencies in place. There is really little point in going over our current malaise as pages upon pages have already been done on this forum and elsewhere, I just hope the new guy who ever he is, can continue in the same vein/philosophy with some tweaks, I do not think we need radical changes. Personally, I think the ingredients are there, and are not a million miles off..... Question is forgetting the personality, what would the fans want in a new guy? Especially, as some fans on here have only ever known AW?
Trouble for Wenger is that the problems linger too long going unaddressed. He's very reactive as opposed to proactive. I was saying before the season started that whilst you had a much better first 11 than ourselves, it was only going to take a few injuries in certain areas that would leave you in trouble and that's been the case. Frankly he was lucky Giroud got injured when he did, and not a week or so after the transfer window closed, because that was another reactive change in agreeing to buy another striker. Now there's talk that he's in for some defenders and defensive midfielders but unless Chelsea and City really mess up that's still going to be too late to challenge for the title. It's funny Barclay mentions Arsenal's resiliance because I said the same yesterday that I was surprised you conceded late on as(Anderlecht aside) you're generally very good at seeing out results, particularly one goal leads. Even that was a late addition though, you used to lose leads late on all the time but over the last season or so Wenger's started making defensive substitutions so you finish with 6 defenders on the pitch when you're seeing out a lead. That almost makes it more confusing as to why he thought he'd start the season with 6 established defenders and a few totally untested youngsters. At the end of the season Wenger will have had 4 transfer windows to sort out the problems and with a lot of money available too. If he hasn't won you the FA Cup, got to the semi-finals of the CL or somehow manage to challenge for the title I don't see why you'd want him to stay. You'd be in the same position you were 2 seasons ago when you weren't spending much and losing some of your best players every summer. Wenger has a track record of pulling it out of the bag when things get really bad though so I wouldn't write him off just yet.
All depends where we finish,if we get top four again it will be as you were.For the hope of progression I hope he steps aside,as for who comes in I don't think it matters who we say it should be as I believe he will be asked to nominate his successor.
Hmm. I see Ray Parlour advocating for Garcia should Arsenal and Wenger part ways. He's certainly done the business at Lille and Roma this season.
