It surprised me that you're on it four times considering before the weekend your lads had the 3rd best defence in the league in terms of conceded goals. 5-0 against Liverpool, 3-0 against Everton, 1-0 against Spurs and I can't remember the Newcastle result but how can such an efficient defence let so many shots in?

    We won at Newcastle 2-1.
I think a lot of it is due to the amount of shots that Ash and Chico get in the way of. In some of those games, you'll find the the keeper wouldn't have had to do a great deal.
When I saw the line up on Saturday, I said to the driver taking us to the ground that Liverpool were going to put at least 3 past us. He didn't believe me.
That's one occasion I was gutted to be proved right <steam>

I think that another point is the fact that our defence is so tight that a lot of sides resort to a lot of long range shots or rushed toe pokes if they get any time on the ball in the box. I can't think of many games where one of our keepers has had to pull off an outstanding performance to keep us in a game. I think Tremmel may have in a recent away game, but can't remember who it was against

When you look deeper into the stats, then apart from the Liverpool game most of those shots are hopeful at very best. Basically the teams are taking pot shots from 30 yards out and they miss the target accordingly. When there is no way through, some players will just blast it from anywhere.

Last weekend though Liverpool were truly breaking through the barrier.

How many times have you seen me say.."thank god for tremmel/vorm and our defense for keeping us in the game and keeping the goals against low, Our midfield plays good in fits and starts and we need a reconized striker as we cant keep relying on michu as even he will go a few games without scoring....these stats are no surprise to me whatsoever.......Tremmel has to be the keeper at wembley after the pool hammered vorm with 5 goals last sunday...

Don't blame Vorm for the worst defensive display I've seen in years. OK, he has to take his share but if it wasn't for him, it would have been ten. Look at the one on ones he saved.

A keeper has a right to some protection and he had none. When he said the performance was a disgrace he wasn't talking about himself. Still want and expect Tremmel to start at Wembley, though, he deserves it.
