For Stevenage replace with Wycombe. So many similarities with that game except this time we didn't equalise in the 98th minute. I'm going to start with the Referee for this one. You know when people complain about the Ref being a homer......well it's about time we got one because this one wasn't in the slightest. The usual chants of "we only get s*it Refs" rang out once more and in my opinion was justified once more. I believe we should have had at least one absolutely nailed on penalty and probably two. First half we were pants. On the balance of play I think Wycombe were worth their lead at one nil but, and this is the surprising thing, if Argyle had taken one of their sitters, and there were two, then they could and should have gone in at half time at least drawing. Reid was at fault for the first sitter. He only had to pass the ball across the box and it was a tap in. He found the only defender instead. Second chance and Harvey played the ball to their keeper which was the only way he couldn't score. We did very little to deserve anything from that half however despite the chances thrown away. Second half and a different Argyle came out. How many times have we said this before......many is the answer. We pressed and pressed and created more than enough chances to have not only equalised but to have won the game. Wycombe decided to do a Stevenage and waste as much time as possible and to lay down at every opportunity to kill the game off. I'm beginning to think that teams are being encouraged to do this in this league in every away performance. It's effective because Wycombe went away with 3 points. Pretty much the second half belonged to Argyle and they tried and tried to score without managing it. The Ref as said decided that the two penalty shouts were not penalties although they might well have been in any other game. He stopped the game for an injury to Nelson when he hadn't previously. Problem was at the whistle Reid was through and away on goal. You may be forgiven for thinking he had this one down as an away win on his betting slip. Depressing is what it was and I'm almost glad I will be missing the next one on Saturday. To have to watch this twice in one week would be a lot to ask of anyone.
For some unknown reason I've put my match comments in the prediction thread......could you move it Plymjools if possible.....sorry.
Wasn't there for this one (thankfully) so this a general whine. Where is Sheridan going on tactics? This league isn't very sophisticated you'd imagine, a couple of big ones who can head the ball, a couple of quick ones even if their ball skills aren't top class, someone who can score goals and a couple that can run around a lot and kick the opposition. Hey presto, play-offs. We have Reid but it seems he often struggles when played as a lone striker. Why don't we just give a straightforward 4:4:2 a go for a few games with either Morgan, Smalley or preferably Alessandro alongside him? Clearly we aren't world beaters but I don't believe we're always getting the best out of what we have. McCormick Mellor O'Connor Hartley Nelson McHugh Banton Cox Norborn Thomas Reid Alessandro What's wrong with that?
There are a lot of people beginning to question Sheridan right now notdistant. I heard a good deal of muttering last night and not for the first time. The feeling is there is hardly a plan A let alone any possibility of a plan B. It was a bit of a shock to see 2 subs at halftime. Not his usual unless we are well trailing and definately not at 1 - 0 down. What's wrong with that you ask with your team selection. Straight away I think Banton is wrong. He is a passenger for most of the match. Sheridan says he isn't an away player. News flash Mr Sheridan he isn't a home player for most of the match either. Some things he does well at times. But he is not in enough of a match and he isn't doing what we all know he can do right now which is scoring. Something not quite right there and I think he should be dropped. He isn't the only one not performing and I'm not convinced Sheridan knows who is his best side even now. This is because he keeps changing it and it aint working that way. Why not pick 11 players and persist with them for 5 matches and see how it goes. If that doesn't work then shuffle it about a bit and try the same again until you get your best blend. This is now well and truely his squad so he cannot put any blame elsewhere. The other thing also might be to get a Ref who isn't rubbish this season because so far this has to be the worst bunch ever.
I was tempted by Gareth Bale or Ronaldo on the right but in the end decided to pick only from our squad! The question is who else? I can't get my head around Marvellous Marvin in a wide position although Sheridan seems to be able to. I strongly agree about picking a side & a shape & sticking with it.
