As said on the prediction thread, the weakness of support is already beginning to show from the less than faithful. The results of that weakness it seems is a number are not prepared to give us any more than a draw out of this. The Sunderland bpard however has us down for a loss across the board with no support even for a point. Indeed it would appear the 3 points should be easy and heading to the North East. Well what can I say. 4 games in and we haven't won a game yet whereas they have won all 4. So form book points to a loss being a foregone conclusion. Good job football has never quite worked like that and results still manage to surprise. I actually think we haven't played that badly this season so far if you ignore the first game. We were very unlucky to have got nothing from the last game and our luck surely has to change sooner rather than later. I'm going to say we can win this at best, can get a point as a middling outcome and am not going to the worst scenario. First and foremost I want it to be entertaining. COYG
I think there’s a lot of water piling up behind the Argyle dam. Recent performances have been fairly good apart from that last vital bit of putting the ball in their net. Once one goes in, I feel there could be a flood. Will that happen against Sunderland? I’ll be there with all available body parts crossed.
I hope your right Not distant . yeh i will be there watching the first win of the season and hopefully the start of many for us and rooney
Grimshaw, Mumba, Szucs, Cissoko, Edwards, Whittaker, Wright, Obafemi, Gibson, Gyabi, Randell. Subs. Marosi, Ogbeta, Houghton, Hardie, Bundu, Galloway, Forshaw, Al Hajj, Palsson.
3-2...F/T Ballard 54 og.....Hardie 73 pen.....Edwards 90+3. Roberts 24 pen.....Mundle 86. Good second half.
Rather poor first half although Sunderland”s penalty was soft to say the least. Rooney warned that Cissiko would excite fans and frustrate them too. Not wrong there. The penalty was “very soft” née “not a penalty at all”. but Sunderland probably deserved a half time lead on the balance of play. Somehow, Argyle came out a different team in the second half and completely turned the tide. You just knew 2-1 wasn’t going to be enough and when they equalised with only 4 minutes to play, your heart was in your mouth. Who else but Joe Edwards would be in hand though to slot home after their keeper parried a shot back into the danger area. Mr Plymouth Argyle strikes again. I think Rooney has him on a diet of raw meat and amphetamines. I explained my forecast of 2-2 saying that once we started scoring, we might score quite a few. We di, but luckily it was 3 not 2. Al Hajj got a brief outing. What a beautifully balanced player he is. He looks as if he’s gliding, not running.
Wow , forget the first half, second half was a better by far performance and the best to date under rooney, energy. i though when he made the last two changes with houghton and forshaw to sure it up it was a mistake as the team were well nbalanced and winning the middle, yeh the new gut Al Hajj he looks comfortable and can play his touches were nice, sissoko was ok to many step overs but what an effort that it the bar, all in all i thought we deserved the points as we rattled them second half, mumba had a good game also, Happy tonight .. the place was noisey come the end good crowd today and weather
Up yours to the draw merchants. Oh ye of little faith. and every other statement you could make of a similar ilk. Thats off my chest so here we go with the game. Firstly agree entirely on the first half assessment although I have to say that I didn't think they were much better than us. The penalty was as soft as soft could be but the bigger frustration was that the Ref immediately pointed to the spot without any thought to it at sll. That means in his world it was nailed on. The touch was no more than that just a touch. It's the ole pundit thing isn't it. He felt a touch and went down. I may be old fashioned but in my world that is just the sign of a plain cheat. Second half was such a different story. We came out as if we meant it. They were panicking all over the pitch and it showed by the way they wasted time at every turn. We scored and not long after when we were pressing their keeper went down having taken half an hour to place a goal kick. The Ref can't do much about that because of course he cannot prove injury or not. He did have a long word with him after though and would guess marked his card. A second goal was on the cards and sure enough it came via a penalty of our own. Yes we got a pen however hard to believe that is. It was about 100 times more a pen than the Refs first decision. The lead was well deserved. We all know though that letting one in is inevitable for us. Sure enough the equaliser came. Not to be outdone this time and fully deserved Joe90 scored the winner. Don't care how it came it was deserved and Joe deserved to be the one. He was outstanding again. This is the man who so many were saying was too old, not Championship standard and a thousand other criticisms. So far this season this old man has outshone them all and would be the first name on the sheet week in week out. Now we come to the Officials. The lino on the Lyndhurst side was abysmal. He missed so much I was actually looking for his guide dog part way through. By far the worst we have had so far. The Referee who allegedly is a Prem Ref coming back from injury. I would point out to the FA that he probably is still injured if the original was to do with his sight. He was shockingly bad. I belive 8 players were booked in this game. I would love to know how and why. Some were bookings and others were nowhere near. Whittaker won the ball. Joe won the ball. Thats 2 of our 4. It's up to the Sunderland following to review their cards but I'd guess they don't agree with all 4. The melee with Joe in the second half resulted in a yellow for the Sunderland player. If it was a booking and given the ball was out of play so it was off ball as they say, then it has to be a red for violent conduct. Lets face it if the ball is not involved then what else can it be. We won so I'm not going to dwell on the man in the middle but if that is Prem refing then no wonder they need VAR to do their job for them. Great result today and it was not a fluke.
we could be playing a top of the league next week at west brom if they win tomorrow then bring it on, tha twill be all loses predicted but not by a few of us. i cant bring my self to a draw .. a lose now way , these happen but i suppose if i got them all right i would win the prediction and not be around the bottom and argyle would get promoted... calm down
As for the cards i think probably 3 would have been plenty it was not a dirty game. We deserved it today and rooney shook them up at half time as Mumba came in the far post club after for a chat with the speaker and said so, their keeper could not hold on to much he just palmed the ball away . Pleased we got the win and pleased for Rooney now lets continue but tough games ahead and they are all tough ones, On refs the Ref in the bournemouth chelsea game tonight anthony taylor made history 14 yellow cards, must been a day for them .. not a bad tackle in that game either. un believable
I think Argyle will win - predict a win I think Argyle will draw - predict a draw I think Argyle will lose - predict a draw Sunderland came into today with 4 wins from four having scored an average of 3 per game. So how we got there really doesn’t matter: it’s a spectacular result. I think it’s coming together after an awful first game. Onwards and upwards.
Well done on the first win Your boys played well in the second half and caused us more problems than in our previous games. Good luck for the rest of the season - except for the return game
Watched the ITV highlights today and we were even on first for once. Wow such is the Rooney factor. Anyway I reran the penalty they were given over and over. I have yet to detect more than a possible finger nail touch on the Sunderland player. I keep saying this I know but how has this sort of thing developed throughout the game. Why do they still call footballers sportsmen. We talked about this over a pint yesterday at the Clubhouse. My son reckoned if Argyle were to be prevented from relegation or be promoted on one of our's diving then I would take it. Genuinely that isn't what I think at all. I would be totally pi**ed off.
It does seem the way now, but we dont seem to get those decisions or im yet to see them, refs like bigger clubs.. im not bothered as we won and deserved the points.. Were you in the clubhouse at the ground Sensible?
There didn't seem to be much of a protest abouit the penalty from the Argyle players....which seems strange.....it was no more than a brush against the players shirt by the Argyle player....the Ref was instant with his decision......should have been a yellow card against the Sunderland player for throwing himself to the ground.
Not at the ground Joe it's my post name for the Hyde Park Social Club. £10 a year membership and if you buy one round for 4 people you virtually get that back on the price difference from a load of other drinking holes.
I watched the highlights too. Not a penalty, a dive pure and simple. I had a good view of it live and didn't think it was. I was right.
