Due to unforseen circumstances in that my daughter has arranged a trip on Saturday I am going to miss this one. It was not planned by me and it isn't me being scared to attend................honestly. I am still confident we can start to take points. I know currently it isn't our home form that is of concern but lets hope the away stuff doesn't start in on the home stuff. We can win this one which is my normal cry. Whether we do or not is with the gods to decide. I will have to get my nuns outfit out of the closset and start praying. COYG
Just a round 12 hour trip for me https://not606.com/threads/plymouth-argyle-home-park-26-10-2024.414905/#post-17921832
Lewis Gibson absent from the squad and is replaced at CB by Victor Palsson. The big news though is that Freddie Issaka starts!
Grimshaw Mumba Szucs Edwards Whittaker Obafemi Randell Forshaw Al Hajj Issaka Palsson Subs...Marosi...Ogbeta...Houghton...Pleguezuelo...Hardie...Wright...Bundu...Gyabi...Gray. No Gibson....He will be missed....must be injured.
0-2...H/T Greenwood...16mins Frokjaer-Jensen...45+3mins Error after error.....hardly any shots on goal....looking bleak. In the bottom three.
3-3...F/T Issaka...55mins Gray...82mins Whittaker...90+2mins Greenwood...16mins Frojaer-Jensen...45+3mins Potts...48mins Desperate stuff....but a point gained from 3-0 down. 21st position.
We started quite well but after about 15 minutes, Preston got on top. A combination of us pushing forward, especially down our left and careless passing left us open and their high press got the crowd agitated with us dilly- dallying with the ball between keeper and defence. We went 0-2 down just before half time and there was booing at the whistle. It was that bad. The second half started equally badly and all seemed lost at 0-3. A raft of substitutions seemed to turn the tide and by some miracle we got a point and the crowd were more or less back onside. Rooney has some serious thinking to do about the style of our play. We’re far too open. I don’t want to comment too much on individual players. We didn’t have Cissoko or Gibson who’ve been stalwarts although Palsson did OK. Issaka was lively although not as effective as Cissoko. Then again, Cissoko has probably our best player to date. Issaka though got one clear chance, took it with aplomb and started the fight back. We may be without Joe Edwards next time out. I do want to point the finger at Ryan Hardie though. When Whittaker got the equaliser with 5 minutes of 7 left to play, the players ran to the crowd to celebrate to the alarm of the stewards. Hardie alone didn’t participate. He grabbed the ball and ran back to the centre spot gesturing wildly to his teammates to get back for the restart. Miserable sod? No, he thinks he has time to get the winner. I’ll say no more.
Well done Argyle for not giving up. See a bit of a positive outlook isn't that difficult is it. Asked the son-in-law to look on his phone at 3 30pm and tell me what the score was. One down. He then volunteered half time and two down. Guess what he said just into the seond half.....three down. At that point I was glad not to be wearing anything Argyle considering I was in Exeter. Yea he cried Argyle got one back. Don't bother I said too little too late. It's 3 -2 he told me in the 80 something minute. Oh well not so bad then I said. Wow guess what the score is now he cried 10 minutes later. Whittaker in the 92nd and 3 - 3. It was a weird afternoon.
Just exchanged messages with number one son. Said we missed a 6 goal thriller today as he was also absent in London. He thought we had lost 3 - 1. When will people learn to stay till the end even if it is on their phone.
I wouldn’t call it a 6 goal thriller. Our first half was awful and when I say there was some booing towards the end of the first half, I mean the atmosphere was poisonous. If you were to say that those that booed are fickle, I’d agree with you but we were s**te. I thought it was particularly stupid to barrack Grimshaw and the defenders for not getting the ball forward quickly. Virtually every team on earth play out from the back nowadays, like it or not. Putting pressure on them is likely to cause catastrophe and a total loss of confidence. Yes, we fought back from 0-3 down but we shouldn’t have been 0-3 down in the first place. If our performances against Sunderland and Blackburn were 10’s, this was a 4 at best. Rooney has to be careful about publicly shaming the players. He’s the manager and he sets the tactics and picks the team. He’s apparently used the phrase “schoolboy defending “. Well let’s have 4 schoolboys at the back not 2, which is what we were frequently fending off attacks with.
Match blog sometime today, you got a point by ditching the hapless passing out from the back nonsense went long ball, it worked, as for the game some of the defending was not world class.
In my amateur opinion, the problem with our defending is not its quality, it’s because we don’t do enough of it. Our two fullbacks are being asked to prioritise getting forward and we’re then exposed on the turnover. I will agree with you though. We were absolutely crap yesterday especially in the last 30 minutes of the first half. We bucked up a bit towards the end obviously. The question is, how did we beat Sunderland and Blackburn, the latter with some ease, and then perform like we did in the first half against you? We’re missing a few players: Cissoko (LW) and Gibson (CB) particularly but there’s something else somewhere.

A fair analysis I think. Hopefully a full week on the training ground will get us back onto our best form. It's away at Leeds next time out, so we'll need to be!
They had a tough game in the Sunday 4:30 kick-off against Liverpool. Good luck in that one, you never know!
