Do you think the EFL did this fixture on purpose given the Manager of Huddersfield is our very own Colin? If I'm brutally honest I have no idea how this one is going to go given it's the first. I have to say we can do it........ COYG
Huddersfield are supposed to be one of the favourite's for relegation.....so one of the easier games then ?
We caught then newly relegated Barnsley napping in the equivalent fixture last year. They were expecting to walk it and were duly dismembered. Perhaps even we thought it was a fluke and 101 points last season surprised even us, but it won't have gone unnoticed this time around, especially not by Neil Warnock all the way from Looe. Will he be on the Big Screen telling the Huddersfield fans he's EverGreen as he did us last year? I do hope so. Will his face have been painted out from the Block 14 entrance or wherever it is? I doubt it. I've seen your league position forecasts and there are no easy games in any league, and we're stepping up to one notch below the EPL. Three in this league have come down from there in parachutes and that's 6 games at least that are going to hard going. But we've competed with most of the others over the decades. Why not now when the club is so well managed, especially as quite a few are in turmoil of one sort or another? Luton got promoted from this lot last season from a ground Plymouth Parkway wouldn't aspire to, so think on that. I feel curiously optimistic. Recruitment seems to have gone wildly better than anyone could have hoped for never mind expected. If we can get another striker in with same relative quality of the excellent Niall Ennis, I think we'll be OK at least.
Just been glancing through the sports pages this morning and I noticed........ 1.....Bristol C on the verge of selling Alex Scott to maybe Bournemouth for £25 million....so that gives City some pocket money to purchase in this window. 2.....Southampton selling Duje Caleta-Car to Lyon...no price mentioned but money in the bank for players. Our £1 million purchases become rather insignificant when teams from the Premiership drop down a League and cut their costs by millions.. just seen that Duje Caleta-Car is only a loan ?
Bristol City have said that even if he's sold for £25m, there can be no spending spree as their wage bill is already on the stops under the Financial Fair Play regulations. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66373086
Leicester meanwhile have lost midfielders Barnes, Maddison and Tielemans and CB Soyuncu , all as free agents to name but four. There's a 3 man midfield in there who'd get into virtually any EPL team... Tielemans has 60 caps for Belgium for example. They have appointed a novice manager, albeit from assistant manager at Manchester City. Yes, they have parachute money but even for them, the cards have been thrown up in the air and come down who knows where.
Tielemans has scored some ferocious goals....there will be many a Championship keeper glad that he has moved on.
Just saw this on the 'Erald: the team for our last game in the Championship, versus Peterborough on May 2nd 2010, in front of just shy of 9,000 fans. Romain Larrieu; Karl Duguid (Rory Fallon 78 mins), Kari Arnason, Bondz N'Gala, Onismor Bhasera (Chris Barker h/t); Alan Judge, Carl Fletcher, Damien Johnson, Chris Clark (Yannick Bolasie 69 mins); Bradley Wright-Phillips, Joe Mason. The unused substitutes were: Ollie Chenoweth, Reda Johnson, Curtis Nelson and Luke Summerfield. I was in transit then, moving back from the SE to SW. I don't remember if we went to the game but I've awarded Green status to players who my somewhat hazy recollections of that era indicate deserve it. Carl Fletcher gets his partly due to his later ultimately unsuccessful attempts as manager, some of them probably unpaid, to prevent the club imploding completely as the financial crisis that followed relegation took a strangle hold. I've resisted the temptation to highlight players I thought less well of, partly because I don't know what colour to use (red and white stripes is not available) and partly out of respect. Although he's not in that downvote category but in the grey middle, I'm expecting comments about Bradley Wright-Phillips. A lively attacker for sure but for me, ultimately frustrating, partly on the field and partly though injuries. Thoughts Sensible? You'd have seen a lot more during this era than I did. Kari Arnason? Nearly went Green there for some reason
You are right.... He was selected by Lars Lagerbäck for UEFA Euro 2016 where Iceland made their first ever appearance in a major tournament. In the first game he marked Cristiano Ronaldo out of the game in their draw with Portugal, the team that eventually won the entire tournament.[32] In their last group stage game Iceland were able to beat Austria to advance to the knock-out stages, and he notched an assist and was selected as man of the match.[33] He once again assisted a goal in Iceland's upset victory over England in the round of 16.
I can also remember him scoring a real thunderbolt goal for Argyle....or is my memory playing tricks on me........not been a good day...spent 7hrs up the local Hospital with Mrs Plym...(feeding a parking meter all day)......got to go back tomorrow and because of it missed one of those golden moments.....an appointment with our doctor for her. And possibly an appointment maybe next week with a specialist......and we have two weeks of dog minding to look forward to starting Saturday. I tell you Argyle need to win Saturday just to give me just a little glimpse of joy.
I hope Mrs Plym gets sorted soon. I can barely remember last week let alone 13 years ago notdistant. Le Keeper was great and served us well, No more words needed. Duigud was the hero of the Emerates stadium in our cup loss to Arsenal. Reasonable fullback. Rory Fallon I though was under estimated and was never that popular. Refs didn't like him. Arnason had a long throw and is something we lack now. again decent backline player. N'Gala I always thought as decent enough but can't remember anything great particularly. Bhasera was or had a bit of class about him and again was decent. Think he had a fair amount of pace as well. Barker was a journeyman honest player. Alan Judge was also a decent wide man most of the time although I thought could be a bit hit or miss on occasions. Carl Fletcher was a good skiper and served us well later on. Johnson I don't even remember if honest. Chris Clarke was another Barker. Honest journeyman who was never going to play at the top. Bolaise was like Bambi on ice. Legs everywhere a bit like Camara. However despite not looking like it at the time he obviously went on to make it having been given away by Argyle for £25k. That's where he differs from Camara. We did well with the price but he won't make it to the top. Wright-Phillips doesn't need me to say anything. Well not much. Was considered a bit of a sick note type and by me also but he did well here and went on to do the same elsewhere. Don't remember much about Mason but in my head think he was a youngster when he played for us. Out of the Subs Summerfield never lived up to his dad's billing but I always thought he did ok despite that. Nelson was liked and boy did he have afterburners. Reda Johnson was always a step away from a red card for me but again he put his heart into playing. The spare keeper I can't ever remember playing. That's it am tired now so will have to have a lay down.
Bradley Wright-Phillips scored 13 goals before Christmas.....and ended up being one of our give aways as we went into administration.....and then scored 13 more at Charlton before the end of season. He went to the States and became a legend scoring goals for New York Red Bulls....67 games...41 goals. Mrs Plym has swollen legs and has an amazing cholesterol count of 15...(5 is the norm)....immediately put on statins.....the concoctions of drugs she now takes would cost a fortune if we had to pay for them....thanks for asking.
My favourite is the one with the team shirts on.....starting from 1899. Of course when the grandkids come around....I quickly get out a grandad mug....especially if it is the one who is a Charlton fan.
I have an Argyle mug. It says "Plymouth Argyle Supporters Mug" (Note: Not to be confused with a Cup). My ex daughter bought me that........ Going through the pre match preparation routine before I set off for the ground. Bit blowy but have been out in worse. Strangely I can't get excited yet but am sure I will buck up when I set off and get to the ground. It's always a bit nerve wracking for the first game as you never know what you are going to get. 3 points of course so why am I doubting...
