Thomas Vermaelen is finally fit again after seven months out with a recurring achiles heel problem. What was initially supposed to be a week out for Vermaelen ended up with him missing the entire season so far and arguably costing us very dearly indeed.

There is a chance that he may play before the end of the season, Wenger may give him some minutes if the opportunity arises.

If TV comes back as strong as he was the previous season and Wenger adds another CB in the summer, then next season should be solid in this position.

We should be sorted defensivly with him back and fit

Him, djourou and Koschielny all quality, and a good mix of height, strength, tackling ability, reading of the game and pace!

And why is every post on here aload of ****e involving atleast 1 of the mods... arn't they suposed to keep things on topic?

I'm glad you Varmaalen's has recovered from what was supposed to be a minor injury at first. So far, Varmaelen has proven he's capable of delivering consistently. So, I do not see why Wenger should bring him back into the first-team. Hopefully, he'll feature in a few games before the start of next season, and initially regain his fitness for the start of next season.

Anyone considered Gibbs at LB? Defensively suspect yes but when he has a decent run of games he has been good. Besides it would be nice to have a LB who is better at crossing than I am.

He's a quality player, and it's good to see him back. It's even better to see him back just too late to help your title challenge ;)

I think vermalean is the one with the battling qualities, and Djourou can put himself about and is a big lad!

Song, or another DM needs to stay back no matter what, then as we're full on attacking with clichy and sagna up the pitch, the 2 CBs can drop out wider to cover the wings while song drops back to cover the middle, so we have 3 at the back while fully attacking, this would stop clichy and sagna getting caught out up the field with a counter down the wing due to the CBs being there to stop them, and the same down the middle because of song.

We had Vermaelen as a first choice CB last season but we still had the same problems at the back

But that was with gallas who was constantly being a twat, and without Koschielney and Djourou to compliment him, also his first season in english football

Vermaelen's return is very well timed. It looks like Djourou could miss the rest of the season.

I think this season was always going to be tough at CB. Two new players and one coming back from long term injury, with the other out with an injury. If TV is fit for next season then it should help to sure up the defence, but I still think we need to buy a top quality experienced CB.

I think Koscielney and TV could form a very good pairing, but like you, I would like to see us add some real steel at the back. Someone like Cahill would be perfect. Clichy hasn't been at his best for a couple of seasons, but I still think he is better than Gibbs.

He's had a great season, and looks like he's going to leave newcastle. I still think Clichy is quality, although sometimes his positioning leaves a lot to be desired. But if he does go, enrique would be a good replacement
